Sri Lanka vs Australia: 2nd ODI Betting Tips
Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy, Thursday 7.00pm (AEST)
1st ODI Review
It wasn't as dominant as we expected it to be, but the Aussies did claim a solid win in the 1st ODI on Tuesday night. Bowling first, they allowed the Sri Lankans to pile on exactly 300 on the back of impressive innings from Kusal Mendis (86), Pathum Nissanka (56) and Danushka Gunathilaka (55).
The pick of the Aussie bowlers was without doubt Ashton Agar, who took 2/49 off his 10 overs, picking up the key wickets of Nissanka and de Silva and going at a very respectable run rate. Marnus Labuschagne also chipped in valuable spin overs with 2/19 off 3 overs.
In reply, the Aussies got off to a bit of a slow start, losing David Warner in the 2nd over for a duck. Aaron Finch (44) and Steve Smith (53) consolidated though, putting on 71 for the 2nd wicket before Labuschagne (24), Marcus Stoinis (44) and Alex Carey (21) all batted solidly to keep Australia in the game but it was Glenn Maxwell with the late heroics to get them over the line.
In a rain affected game which saw the Aussies target reduced to just 282 off 44 overs, Maxwell belted 80 off just 51 balls in the final overs of the match including 6 sixes in a match winning performance.
2nd ODI Preview
Sri Lanka Predicted XI: Danushka Gunathilaka, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Dhanajaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Dasun Shanaka, Chamika Karunaratne, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dunith Wellalage, Dushmantha Chameera, Maheesh Theekshana
Tough to know whether or not the home side will make any line-up changes given they put together a really solid performance all round despite the loss. 19 year old spinner Dhanajaya de Silva performed well and should get another crack, and their top six looks pretty settled at the moment. My money would be on them to pick the same team heading into G2.
Australia Predicted XI: David Warner, Aaron Finch, Mitch Marsh, Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins, Ashton Agar, Mitch Swepson, Josh Hazlewood
Where do the Aussies go here? All of their top six performed admireably besides the one guy who is actually guaranteed selection in David Warner. Not sure how they could possibly continue to keep Travis Head out of this side given his dominant ODI series against Pakistan eariler this season. I think Swepson probably comes in for one of the quicks as spin seemed to play a much bigger role than pace, then the Aussies will likely add Cam Green or Mitch Marsh as another seam option.
Aussies should win again here as their bowlers continue to get used to the Sri Lankan conditions. Back them at $1.38 if you can find something good to multi them with.
If you're hunting extra value though, I like the odds of Mitch Swepson to be the top wicket taker for the Aussies and David Warner to be the top runscorer.
For the Sri Lankans, Pathun Nissanka is far and away the class batsman of the line-up and is on the third line of betting for his teams top scorer while Hasanranga took 4 wickets in game where he really didn't even bowl that well in G1. Should be top wicket-taker again.
