NRL Eels vs Titans tips

NRL Round 16 comes to an end with a potential Spoon Bowl, as the Titans travel to Sydney to take on the Eels at CommBank Stadium. With the Eels missing both starting halves, this is a terrific opportunity for the Titans to climb off the bottom of the ladder with a win. Let’s dig in and find some value.

Eels vs Titans Predictions & Tips: 2025 NRL Round 16

Eels Wooden Spoon Favourites?

The Eels season goes from bad to worse, after not only losing Dylan Brown to suspension after an innocuous shove of the ref, but halfback and captain Mitch Moses is set to miss six weeks after injuring his calf in Origin camp. The last time we saw the Eels, they were being dismantled by the Bulldogs in Round 14, going down 30-12. The Eels were never really in the game, giving up close to 1000 metres more than the Bulldogs, whilst allowing six-line breaks and 16 offloads to the Dogs, who had their way with the Eels forwards. It was an indictment on the Eels’ season, and they appear destined to battle it out for the wooden spoon over the remaining three months of the regular season.

Can the Titans Seize This Great Opportunity for Back-to-Back Wins?

The Titans had one of their best performances of the season last week, as they hammered the Sea Eagles 28-8 at home. Despite being without their forward leader Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, the Titans were the better team, completing at a terrific 91% for the game. AJ Brimson was outstanding at the back, running for 261 metres, breaking the line twice, and setting up a try, as the Titans won their first game in over a month. They get a huge chance to make it two on the trot here, something they’ve managed only once this season. In terms of team news, Fa’asuamaleaui has been named on the bench and is expected to back up from Origin, however his minutes could be reduced. Tino is the only player who featured in Origin from either team, and as such there is no other major team news regarding Origin.

Eels vs Titans Recent History

The Eels and Titans have had a decent back-and-forth rivalry over the past few seasons, with the Eels winning three of the past five games between the sides. Last season, they met just the once in round 19 at Cbus Super Stadium, where the Titans closed massive 9.5-point home favourites, with a total of 54.5. Both sides were missing their Origin contingent, including Fa’asuamaleaui for the Titans, and Moses for the Eels. Statistically, the game was close over 80 minutes, and despite the Titans leading 18-0 after just 21 minutes, the Eels never gave up, closing the margin to 8 points with 14 minutes remaining. The Titans closed the game out though, eventually winning 24-16.

Battle of the Spoon Favourites to be Dour Affair

The Eels opened whopping 7.5-point home favourites on the lookahead line, however with the loss of Mitch Moses the re-open was vastly different, with the Titans shifting into short 1.5-point favourites. Money has continued coming in on the Titans, as they have pushed to 2.5-point road favourites at the time of writing. If it was just the loss of Moses, I would see a slight bit of value here in the home side, however with no Moses or Brown, it’s hard to go past a Titans win here. I don’t like betting on a team like the Titans as the favourite, and would definitely not advocate for a big bet, but I believe the more extreme outcome of a big Titans win is the bet to make here. In the Titans four wins this season, three have been by a margin of 13+, whilst the Eels have lost five of their nine by 13+. Put it in your SGM for a nice juicy return.

Looking towards the total, and it opened 49.5 and has been bet towards the under, with the total sitting at 48.5 at most books. I agree with the move, given the lack of attacking options for the Eels, I would imagine Head Coach Jason Ryles will be emphasizing defence this week at training. The Eels have been a heavy unders team this year, with 10 of their 13 games going under the closing total. I trust with the Personnel missing for the Eels, and the up and down nature of the Titans, that points will be hard to come by. There’s also no concern regarding the “Sunday afternoon” premium on points, as this game will kick off at 6:15pm, well after sunset.

Eels vs Titans Player Prop Bet: Lomax the X-Factor to Score

Only two tries this season for the Eels’ off-season recruit, however his move to the wing will push those numbers up by the end of the season. Expect the Eels’ halves to pepper Khan-Periera in the air, and for the Blues winger to score.

Zac Lomax (1+ try)

Leg 2: Z Lomax (1+ try)See Best Prop Bet.

Leg 3: A Khan-Pereira (1+ try) It took AKP a few weeks to get going this season, but the past fortnight he has been back to his try scoring best, scoring two doubles in succession. Should get another here against a poor Eels right edge.
