NRL Round 17 comes to an end with a clash of two Queensland teams currently battling to not win the Wooden Spoon, as the Titans host the Cowboys at Cbus Super Stadium. Despite sitting in 12th on the ladder, the Cowboys currently hold the worst for and against in the NRL, closely followed by the Titans. This could well be an early Spoon Bowl here, with plenty on the line.

Titans vs Cowboys Prediction & Tips: 2025 NRL Round 17
Titans Staring Down the Barrel
The Titans come into this matchup off the back of a disappointing loss last week to the Eels, who were without both Mitch Moses and Dylan Brown. This was a week after the Titans had their best win of the season, smashing the Sea Eagles 28-8. The Titans did lose halfback Jayden Campbell after only 27 minutes, but it was no excuse as they were thoroughly beaten by their fellow wooden spoon contenders, 36-20. Beau Fermor was once again one of the best for the Titans, making 37 tackles with zero misses, and running for 136 metres. He also took over the goal kicking duties with Campbell off the field, however, may not get them back after going 1 from 3.
Will the Return of Clifford Boost the Cowboys?
The Cowboys come into this round sporting a three-game losing streak, with their loss last week sending their for and against over those three weeks to 26 points for and a massive 138 against. The Cowboys very much look like the worst team in the competition at the moment, and coach Todd Payten has decided to again rearrange his halves, recalling Jake Clifford at five eighth, and shifting young gun Jaxon Purdue back to the centres where he flourished earlier this year. Could this one move prove the catalyst for a Cowboys revival? We should get a fairly good indication this week against a poor Titans team. There wasn’t much to get excited about last week for the Cowboys, as they lost 42-8 to the Roosters. Murray Taulagi ran for 277 metres, scored a try and broke the line twice, but it was all rather moot, as the Cowboys were hammered all over the park.
Titans vs Cowboys Recent History
This rivalry has been dominated recently by the home side, with the home team winning seven of the past eight matchups. The teams have already met once this season in Townsville, with the Cowboys closing 8.5-point home favourites in round 8, with a total of 48.5. The Titans shot out of the gate, leading 18-6 after half an hour, but it was all the Cowboys from the 35th minute, as they ran in eight unanswered tries to easily win 50-18. In a good sign for the Cowboys, Jaxon Purdue was brilliant in the centres, running for 183 metres, scoring a try, breaking the line twice, and creating a line break. But it was Tom Dearden who stole the show, with a massive five try assists and four line-break assists, giving the Titans nightmares for weeks to come.
Points on Offer on Sunday at the Goldie
The Cowboys opened 2.5-point road favourites for this clash, with early Cowboys money coming into the market, pushing this towards 4.5. I would imagine it will probably close around the 4.5 mark, which would fit with the 8.5-point closing total in round 8. This is a must win for the Cowboys if they are to have any hope of finishing in the top 8, and they have the ability to rack up scores. I’d make the Cowboys a 3.5-point favourite and would lean heavily on the Cowboys here to cover and win handsomely. Despite this, it won’t be my best bet, as I really cannot trust this Cowboys team right now.
Moving ontothe total, and it opened a massive 50.5, and has been bet up to 51.5. I fully agree with the move and make a fair total 55.5. The Titans and Cowboys are both heavy overs teams, with the Cowboys hitting overs at a clip of 64%, good for the second most in the NRL. There is a concern for rain in Robina tomorrow afternoon, but I’m not going to allow that to scare me off the over here. Both teams have nothing to lose here and will be throwing caution to the wind in my opinion. Bet the over with confidence.

Titans vs Cowboys Player Prop Bet: It’s Queensland Derby Time
Our Best Player Prop Bet: Robert Derby (1+ try)
Three tries and four-line breaks in the round 8 game against the Titans, expect the Cowboys’ winger to be amongst the try scorers again this week. Has struggled recently to score points, but with two more seasoned halves this week for the Cowboys, should see better ball.

Titans vs Cowboys Same Game Multi
Leg 1: Cowboys (-2.5) – See the total write up above, I make a fair here 52.5, so will take the over.
Leg 2: R Derby (1+ try) – See Best Prop Bet.
Leg 3: T Fa’asuamaleaui (1+ try) – The big Titans forward is struggling through a sternum injury, but he knows how much this game means for his team. Has two tries this season, and with Jayden Campbell out for the Titans, his teammates will be looking for inspiration.
