Ladbrokes Park (Hillside) hosts Saturday racing this week with nine races set for viewing. The first is at 11:50am and punters will have to keep an eye on the weather and how the track plays after 20mls of rain fell on the track on Thursday and Friday. The track is rated a Soft 6 but a downgrade is possible. My four best bets of the afternoon are below.
Sandown Racing Tips – Saturday, June 10th 2023
Race 2: Quayclean Handicap - 12:25pm (AEST)
(9) Movader is third up now and this consistent filly can place at nice odds in this one. She likes the damp tracks so a downgrade would be ideal, but even still, a Soft track should be okay despite never having raced on one. Her 2nd at Hillside was very good last time and she is even fitter this time. She has never missed a place and she has won when third up previously.
(1) Jenny Jerome stormed home at Flemington last time to win well. She has more weight this time but Lafferty stays on and is riding well.
(10) Hazel Baby has placed on the Heavy and the Soft and is another who is over the odds and is a place chance.
(7) Extratwo was way too good last time and my start fav. Mertens is off and New Zealand’s Weramu Pinn is on.
(9) Movader - Place

Race 3: Evergreen Turf Handicap - 1:00pm (AEST)
(5) Strawberry Rock was 8th at Rosehill last start but did get trapped wide for a while in that one. He is fitter now and when 3rd up previously, he has placed on 2 occasions. He probably doesn’t want the track to get to Heavy so he will be hoping there is no downgrade in conditions. Mertens rides for the first time and will likely settle midfield.
(3) Storm King likes wet tracks and will likely settle on pace. Was 8th at Flemington last week but that race was harder.
(1) Irish Butterfly has an easier race to contend with and he did win very well 2 starts ago. He seems to really like this track.
(6) Sky Out has a wide barrier but was very good 2 starts ago when 3rd at Mornington. May have to go back.
(5) Strawberry Rock – E/W

Race 4: Senet Gambling Law Experts Handicap - 1:35pm (AEST)
(2) Arktika is capable on damp ground and should have taken improvement from her Flemington 4th where she plugged away okay. She as place at Hillside previously and she does like racing over this distance. Cyclone Sally will roll forward and put pace on and I think that might set up the race nicely for Arktika.
(4) Frigid will go forward with Sally but they may go too fast early. Can stay on for a placing after running 3rd here 2 weeks ago.
(15) Let’s Say Grace got up by a nose at Cranbourne last time at 25-1 and is value again at similar odds. Will sit midfield and should get a good run in transit.
(8) Lady Adelaide has drawn poorly in 18 but has good Soft track form. Blake Shinn hops on for the first time.
(2) Arktika – E/W

Race 5: Stow Storage Solutions Handicap - 2:10pm (AEST)
(2) Curran may like the predicted strong pace and charge home at a touch over even money for the Place. He has raced in harder races than this and has the fitness edge. He raced in the Group 1 Goodwood at Adelaide last start and although 12th, he simply got too far back. Will want the pace on and may get that here.
(4) Dance To Dubai has been in the placings 5 of 6 times when first up and the Pride of Dubai/ Brisk mare did jump out well at Pakenham last week when winning. The Moody/Hefel combination is going well and 53kg looks like a nice weight to carry in this one. Will roll forward and may sit behind Esta La Roca.
(5) Starry Legend has been in the money 6 of 7 starts at Hillside and she likes this distance. Only beaten a head here last week but this race may be harder.
(3) Esta La Roca will try to lead this race and will have taken more fitness from her first up effort when she stuck on well for 4th. She has a good winning strike rate.
