Richmond vs Port Adelaide Preview & Tips: 2026 AFL Round 4

April 3rd 2026, 10:56am, By: Andy Rosos

Richmond vs Port Adelaide Prediction & Betting Tips

Round 4 shapes as a crucial early-season test for both Richmond and Port Adelaide, with the Power desperate to steady their campaign and the Tigers searching for consistency from a young and developing list. Port sit at 1–2 despite a favourable schedule to start the year, while Richmond have shown flashes but struggled to sustain performance across four quarters. With both sides under pressure, this looms as a scrap rather than a shootout.

Richmond vs Port Adelaide Prediction & Betting Tips: AFL 2026 Round 4

Young Tigers Searching for Answers

Richmond’s season has been a tale of promise followed by reality checks. They pushed Carlton to the brink in their opener but have since been comfortably beaten by Gold Coast and Fremantle, exposing issues with ball movement and forward connection. Averaging just 58 points per game, the Tigers have struggled to generate consistent scoring opportunities, ranking last in both inside 50 entries and conversion rate.

Tim Taranto continues to do the heavy lifting through the midfield, averaging over 26 disposals, while young talent is beginning to emerge. Luke Trainor impressed with a career-high 28 disposals last week, highlighting the upside within Richmond’s developing core. However, their inability to control possession and transition the ball effectively remains a major concern against stronger opposition.

Power Under Pressure

Port Adelaide’s start to 2026 has raised serious questions. After bouncing back from a Round 1 loss with a big win over Essendon, they followed it up by surrendering a 29-point lead to West Coast and falling to a disappointing home defeat. The loss exposed ongoing issues with composure, defensive structure and stoppage work, with the Power ranking among the worst teams in clearance differential.

Despite those concerns, the talent is still there. Zak Butters continues to accumulate at a high level, while Mitch Georgiades has been in strong form in front of goal, providing a consistent scoring outlet. Injuries, particularly to Connor Rozee and in the backline, have created instability, but Port still possess enough midfield depth and forward firepower to challenge a struggling Richmond side if they can lift their intensity.

Tigers or Power? Here’s Our Best Bet

This shapes as a contested, low-scoring affair given both sides’ struggles with consistency and ball movement. Richmond’s inability to generate forward entries and convert opportunities limits their scoring ceiling, while Port Adelaide’s issues at stoppages and defensive lapses have prevented them from putting together complete performances.

However, recent history strongly favours the Power. Port have won their last five matches against Richmond by at least 10 points, and while they have been far from convincing this season, they still appear to have more proven midfield quality and scoring power. If they can apply pressure around stoppages and generate enough forward entries, they should be able to grind out a result.

Richmond vs Port Adelaide Prop Bet

Nick Vlaustin shapes as a strong chance to find plenty of the ball across Richmond’s defensive half. He recorded 19 disposals last week against Fremantle and has a proven track record of accumulating, clearing 20+ in five of his last six matches at the end of last season. With Richmond likely to spend significant time defending against Port’s forward entries, Vlaustin should see ample opportunity to rack up intercept possessions and distribute the ball, making 20+ disposals a solid play.

Richmond vs Port Adelaide Same Game Multi

Jayden Short 20+ Disposals | Mitch Georgiades 3+ Goals | Zak Butters 30+ Disposals

This multi leans into form and role across both sides. Jayden Short has been a consistent accumulator, recording 20, 23, 24 and 23 disposals across his last four games and should again see plenty of the ball across half-back. Mitch Georgiades continues his strong scoring run, kicking 4, 3, 2 and 3 goals in his last four matches and remains Port’s primary forward target. Zak Butters rounds it out as the midfield engine, producing 35, 23, 36 and 30 disposals in his past four outings and likely to be heavily involved again. In what should be a contested game with clear roles, this combination of Short 20+, Georgiades 3+ and Butters 30+ stacks up well.
