Caulfield Racing Tips: Saturday, October 14th 2023

Race 1: BECK Grand Handicap - 12:15pm (AEDT)

(4) Kettle Hill for the Maher & Eustace stable goes on top here after a very good 5th when beaten just 1.3L at Hillside last start. On that occasion he was basically last before he let down over the concluding stages. He will probably prefer a Good surface so won’t like much rain on the Friday. Mark Zahra rides for the first time and he is in good form.

(5) Red Sun Sensation was last at Caulfield last start in the Listed Testa Rossa but this race is easier. He is fitter now and at double figure odds is worth consideration.

(8) Maktoob ran on well for 3rd at Flemington on September 24 and he won at his only start on the Soft so wouldn't mind a track downgrade.

(9) Matron Bullwinkle won well from a wide barrier last time (11) but will have to repeat that effort with another strong performance from barrier (14).

(4) Kettle Hill - Win

$6.50 (1 Unit)

Race 2: Thoroughbred Club Plate - 12:50pm (AEDT)

(2) Appin Girl won a Flemington jumpout on September 28 and is a huge chance if the track stays Good. She has run very well at Doomben in both starts and is ready to tackle the Melbourne Spring Carnival. Zahra rides and she will likely settle midfield in the run.

(1) Shesallshenanigans may lead this race but hasn’t placed at Caulfield yet. Is capable on both Good and Soft.

(3) Seresana is fitter now and won’t mind either of the track conditions on offer. Did win a Cranbourne on the Soft.

(6) Fragile Love was last at Flemington last start and can be slowly away at times.

(2) Appin Girl - Win

$2.70 (2 Units)

Race 3: NEDS Herbet Power Stakes (Group 2) - 1:25pm (AEDT)

(1) Daqiansweet Junior is the pick if the track stays Good. He is slowly getting fitter and everything leads to Melbourne Cup Day but it’s about now that he will want a top 3 finish. He hasn’t placed in quite a while but he did pick up late ground when 7th at Caulfield last start. Is the topweight which isn’t ideal but is worth and each-way play.

(8) Carini should get a nice run from the inside barrier and wouldn’t mind a Soft track having won 3 races on it previously. Michael Dee is 1 from 1 on top.

(7) Brayden Star will be running on and has been settling a bit closer of late. First try at Caulfield.

(4) Military Mission was 4th in The Metrop and has to carry extra weight as a result.

(1) Daqiansweet Junior - E/W

$9/$2.35 (1 Unit)

Race 4: SETNET Northwood Plumes Stakes (Group 3) - 2pm (AEDT)

(2) Red Card for Godolphin will want to make amends after their horse was 4th after starting very short odds after leading at Caulfield last start. From barrier 12 she may have to try and lead again from out there but she is fitter and has Moreira in the saddle. A firm track is probably her go.

(5) Grey River rises in distance and was good when 2nd in a jumpout at Morphettville 2 weeks ago. Oliver has chosen to ride her and if the track is Soft she goes up a placing or two.

(6) Seradess was 2nd all of the way behind Cardigan Queen last start and she should be able to get another good run in transit.

(7) She Dances has a good winning strike rate having won 5 from 11 and she is fitter again after placing behind Vivianne last start at this track.

(2) Red Card - Win

$2.60 (3 Units)

Race 5: Metcap Finance Schillachi Stakes (Group 2) - 2:35pm (AEDT)

(2) Uncommon James has won everytime when second up and is capable on both dry and wet ground. In the Moir he was specked in the market and made up ground when 3rd over the 1000m. Damien Lane has always finished top 3 on him and he is 1 from 1 at Caulfield.

(7) Asfoora will go forward again and ger Caulfield form is very good having won 3 of 4 starts. IMperatriz beat her in the Moir in a race where she beat Uncommon James. Has won 2 from 3 when third up.

(1) Ingratiating has drawn well in 2 and he did hit the line well at this track last time behind Asfoora. If he is within 2L of her at the 400m he should run past her here.

(4) Lombardo has won over this distance but may appreciate the 1200m in a couple of weeks’ time.

(2) Uncommon James - Win

$2.40 (3 Units)

Race 6: The Big Screen Company Weekend Hussler - 3:10pm (AEDT)

(6) Regardsmaree was last in a recent jumpout but it was a quality one with Anilla in the trial. At Caulfield last time he was 4th after getting tired late but with more fitness he might a good each-way play. He hasn’t won in 10 starts but he has won 6 times from 23 starts over this distance. He has won 3 from 14 starts at Caulfield.

(5) Minsk Moment will improve after running 7th behind Star Patrol who has since won again. Shinn is on for the first time.

(3) Welwal will want it Soft and he does have good first up form.

(4) Ayrton will want the track to remain a Good 4. He is very talented and loves Caulfield having won all starts here.

(6) Regardsmaree - E/W

$7.50/$2.60 (1 Unit)

Race 7: NEDS Might and Power (Group 1) - 3:45pm (AEDT)

(9) Duais does get back in her races and with this year's target race not necessarily on the Melbourne Cup she just might be at 100 percent fitness here. She hit the line strongly in the Chelmsford when 9th beaten 3.4L and then backed that up with a quality 3rd in the Underwood Stakes. She is 1 from 1 over this track & distance.

(1) Alligator Blood will be confirmed as a champion if he can win thi and his chance are enhanced if the track remains Good. His Underwood Stakes win was excellent and he will carry 59kg again.

(3) Nonconformist has been slowly plugging along and making up late ground in his last couple. Will appreciate a Good track.

(6) Just Fine will be around 3rd or 4th in the middle stages and might get the run of the race. Jordan Childs hops on for the first time and he is in fine form.

(9) Duais - E/W

$5.50/$1.80 (1u/3u)

Race 8: Catanach’s Jewellers Vase Group 3 - 4:30pm (AEDT)

(1) Foxy Frida has drawn the inside with Billy Egan on and will find this a lot easier because there is no Amelia’s Dream in this race. She was 10th but only beaten 5L behind her last start and will be fitter again. She has won 3 races over the 1600m and will be good enough odds.

(10) Wishlor Lass loves a Good track and bounced back with a nice victory at Hillside ls start where he carried 61.5kg. She drops down to 55kg here but this is obviously harder.

(3) Papillon Club should go forward and will appreciate a Good track. Has got too far back her last couple.

(4) Barbie’s Fox has drawn wide in 13 but does normally get back anyway. Does race in good races and this is slightly easier.

(1) Foxy Frida - E/W

$11/$3 (1 Unit)

Race 9: NEDS Caulfield Guineas GROUP 1 - 5:10pm (AEDT)

(4) Steparty can do it again for the Wimmera after winning well at this track on September 23. He shouldn’t have won from where he was in the run but did that day and from barrier 7 John Allen has a few options to explore in the run. The colt usually has good barrier manners and it shouldn’t matter what the track conditions are because he can handle all.

(1) Militarize has drawn wide in 12 but he does have a powerful finish on him. He was huge in the Golden Rose for Moreira when winning and he has won over this distance before. It's his first race at Caulfield though.

(8) Scentify ran a brave 3rd behind Steparty last start and from all reports did some good trackwork earlier in the week. Ben Allen should get him in a good position from barrier 5.

(7) Scheelite has drawn wide in 13 but goes back. A fast run race would suit.

(4) Steparty - Win

$3.80 (2 Units)

Race 10: Hyland Race Colour Toorak Handicap GROUP 1 - 5:50pm (AEDT)

(15) Amenable is a good price for the place here i reckon. The distance rise might help this time because they were too speedy for him last start when a losing favourite. A Good track is preferred and the Price & KentJr team are confident he can run top 4. He did win at Caulfield in August after he stormed over the top of them.

(3) Amelia’s Jewell has drawn wide in 12 and is having her first look at this track. She is the obvious one to beat and will hook to the outside down the home straight. Has won 2 Group 2 races in a row leading into this.

(7) Attrition is another at good odds for the place for Mitch Freedman. He was excellent at The Valley 2 starts back but he hasn’t placed at Caulfield yet which is a slight concern.

(9) Corner Pocket should get a good run and with less weight for Newitt could sneak into the top 4 at big odds. Likes Caulfield!

(15) Amenable - Place

$4.20 (2 Units)
