Roosters vs Broncos Predictions & Tips: NRL Round 9 2026
A stunning (yet expected) display
An ambush could’ve been ahead of them in the Roosters ANZAC Day game against the Dragons. Able to absorb early pressure, the Roosters took their chances once the game opened up and powered their way to a 62-16 victory. The 11-try display was dazzling to say the least, with points coming from a variety of areas. With 54%, they completed at 81%, made 10.3m per carry, and missed just 24 tackles. As good as they were in attack, their defence was also strong, giving minimal opportunities away; they allowed just 2 line breaks. It is the closest thing to an 80-minute performance they have displayed this season and one that means they should only get better.
No excuses
Missing a host of players, the Broncos could’ve been forgiven for a poor performance. They were anything but that in their dominant 32-12 home victory over the Bulldogs, relying on a host of inexperienced players to lift to a new level. It appeared to come easily to them also; a strong first half saw them carry a 20-nil HT lead into the break. They were poised with the ball (93% completion rate) and strong with their carries (8.7m per carry), never producing anything beyond their means but executing carefully in the process. Most importantly, their defence was strong (21 missed tackles) and this gave them confidence on both sides of the ball. With better players to return, it was a positive statement of what is to come.
Stats that matter
- Interestingly, the away team has won the past 3 matches between these teams. The Roosters have a 64% record at this ground compared to the Broncos 63%.
- 3 of the past 5 matches have been decided by 22 or more points. This has seen the average margin of victory in those matches sit at 20 points. They’ve been relatively high scoring matches, with the average total points sitting at 49.2 but that varies between 30 and 74 points.
- The Roosters have an edge in attack, scoring 30ppg compared to the Broncos 23ppg. The visitors are superior defensively though, allowing just 21ppg compared to the Roosters 25ppg.
If it’s consistent, the Roosters are too strong
It is a big ‘if’ in this contest; do not let the performance of a capable team against a struggling opponent cloud your judgement either. The Broncos will offer a new challenge for the Roosters this week, especially with Walsh and Carrigan returning to the team. The visitors have been spirited in recent weeks. Winning in the manner they have while struggling with an injury toll gives hope to the squad. It is almost as if the hangover from the 2025 Premiership is beginning to wear off and they are getting back to their best. The Roosters also require greater consistency. Opinion is not changing after last week’s effort; they are a team which must continually improve, and better sides will expose their shortcomings. The consensus is that you can make a case for either team winning this contest. While there is a slight lean towards the Roosters in head-to-head markets, the preferred option is to invest on this game being a close contest. It does go against the recent trend of matches (and the trend of 2026) but when two capable sides clash, they will look to make a defensive statement over 80 minutes.

Roosters vs Broncos Same Game Multi
Leg 1 = Total points over 51.5 – see above for justification.
Leg 2 = Walsh to score – you cannot keep him quiet for long and he will want to make a statement upon his return. Walsh enjoys playing the Roosters, scoring 3 tries from his past 4 matches against them.
Leg 3 = Crichton to score – it has been a quiet start to the season for him, but Crichton returned to the try scorers list with one last week. That is great timing heading into the Broncos, a team he has 4 tries from in as many recent matches.
