Geelong vs North Melbourne Prediction & Betting Tips: AFL 2026 Round 8

Should Cats Fans Be Concerned?

Geelong returns to GMHBA Stadium this Saturday, eager to atone for a performance against Port Adelaide that was distinctly un-Geelong like. Last week’s 30 point defeat exposed some rare cracks, particularly in the engine room where the Cats were dismantled 46 to 28 in the clearances. This uncharacteristic lack of efficiency made them look surprisingly vulnerable, but history suggests a quick rebound is likely. The defensive unit receives a significant boost with the return of Sam De Koning and Jake Kolodjashnij, two reliable stoppers who were missed during last week's struggle. Their presence should help stabilise a backline that was sliced open far too easily in Adelaide.

Defence Still an Issue for North

North Melbourne arrives sitting seventh on the ladder with a 4-3 record, though this position is slightly inflated due to a soft early season draw. While they showed plenty of heart in a narrow seven point loss to the Giants last week, they now face a brutal reality as they start to come up against league’s heavyweights. The challenge is made even steeper by the absence of the influential George Wardlaw, who is out with illness. This puts immense pressure on Tristan Xerri and Harry Sheezel to maintain their clearance dominance against a Geelong midfield that will be playing with a point to prove on their home deck.

Recent H2H History

The historical weight of this match up is hard to ignore, as the Kangaroos appear to be walking into a graveyard for their ambitions. Geelong currently holds a 14 game winning streak over North Melbourne, which stands as the longest active team versus team dominance in the AFL. North hasn't tasted victory at Kardinia Park since 2015, and recent encounters have been nothing short of one sided. The gulf in class was most evident during their Round 20 clash last year, where the Cats piled on 150 points to North’s 49 in a 101 point demolition. Jeremy Cameron was the chief destroyer that day with a career high 11 goals – making it 30 from his last five matches against North.

What to Expect? Here’s our Best Bet!

While North Melbourne has shown improved midfield metrics and genuine grit lately, the bounce back factor at GMHBA Stadium is one of the most reliable trends in the game. Geelong rarely produces consecutive sub-par efforts, and with their defensive structure restored, they are well equipped to suffocate an attack that can be disjointed at times. As the Kangaroos feel the heat of a more difficult schedule, the Cats should re-establish their authority through clinical transition play and superior depth. Take the Cats to cover the spread in this one.

Geelong vs North Melbourne Prop Bet

There were limited opportunities for Jeremy Cameron against the Power last week, but he was still able to finish the game with three goals. He’s now kicked 16 across his last three games including the big bag of 10 against the Bulldogs. Cameron now gets another favourable matchup against the shaky North defence who he’s capitalised on in the past, including an 11-goal haul against them last season. He’s kicked 30 goals in his last five games against North.

Jeremy Cameron 4+ Goals

Geelong vs North Melbourne Same Game Multi

Geelong to Win: North are certainly on the improve in 2026 but are they really ready to take a scalp like the Cats in Geelong? Highly doubtful.

Jeremy Cameron 4+ Goals: For the reasons mentioned above in our prop bet.

Nick Larkey 2+ Goals: He’s averaging three goals per game this season and has kicked multiples in all but one.

Max Holmes 25+ Disposals: He’s had 25+ disposals in all seven games this season and that should continue here.
