Brisbane and Perth open NBL27 Round 8 at Nissan Arena on Wednesday night in an Ignite Cup clash between two teams trying to establish some consistency. Both have shown they can compete with the league’s better sides, but injuries, defensive lapses and uneven performances have made them difficult to trust.
The Bullets return home after a gutsy 96–89 victory over Adelaide, overcoming a depleted rotation and foul trouble for Tyrell Harrison. Perth, meanwhile, arrive under pressure following consecutive home defeats to Sydney and Illawarra, with their slow starts becoming a recurring problem.
The Wildcats have the greater depth and enter as road favourites, but Brisbane’s inside presence could expose Perth’s weakened frontcourt. We break down both teams’ recent form, the key matchups and our best bet, along with a three-leg Dabble Pick’Em selection.

Brisbane Bullets Fighting Through the Setbacks
Brisbane’s 96-89 win in Adelaide was an impressive response to their heavy loss against Cairns. The Bullets were missing several regulars, then lost Tyrell Harrison to fouls with almost six minutes remaining, but still found a way to finish the job. At 5-5, they have kept themselves competitive despite a difficult run with injuries.
Harrison finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds, and his combination with Raul Neto gives Brisbane something to build around. Neto can get him the ball in good positions, while Nate Hinton’s ability to defend, rebound and contribute offensively has been valuable through the changes around him.
The concern is how much Brisbane are asking of those players. Max Mackinnon missed Sunday with concussion, adding to an injury list that already included Arnas Velicka and Jacob Holt. Their recent wins over Adelaide and Illawarra deserve respect, but heavy defeats against Tasmania and Cairns show how quickly games can get away from them.
Perth Wildcats Need to Start Better
Perth arrive at Nissan Arena looking to recover from consecutive home losses to Sydney and Illawarra. They fell 25 points behind against the Kings, then spent most of Saturday’s 105-98 defeat chasing the Hawks. At 5-4, the Wildcats need to address those slow starts, particularly with eight of their first nine games played at home.
Brandon Knight has given their offence another way to create opportunities, although he is still settling into the side. Alongside Elijah Pepper and Kristian Doolittle, there is enough scoring and playmaking to make Perth difficult to contain. The challenge is getting those combinations working consistently rather than relying on a late run to rescue games.
Jo Lual-Acuil Jr remains out with his calf injury, leaving Perth vulnerable around the basket. Harrison will test that weakened frontcourt, and the Wildcats cannot afford to compound the problem by giving Brisbane cheap offensive rebounds.
Bullets vs Wildcats Betting Tips
I’m backing Perth -3.5. Brisbane showed plenty of fight in Adelaide, but I prefer the Wildcats’ options when the game slows down. Doolittle’s ability to create from the frontcourt gives them another avenue alongside Knight, with Pepper’s shooting making it harder for defenders to crowd the ball.
Harrison is the biggest concern for this bet. Perth need to make his catches difficult and force Brisbane to work for their inside baskets. At the other end, involving him in ball screens should make him defend away from the hoop and give the Wildcats opportunities to attack.
Neither side has been consistent enough to expect a comfortable result. Still, I think Perth have enough scoring threats to stretch Brisbane’s depleted rotation, and I’m backing them to cover the modest line.
