Mornington Racing Tips: Wednesday December 13th

December 12th 2023, 3:40pm, By: Brendan Bunworth

Mornington Racing Tips

Mornington will host twilight midweek racing on Wednesday, with gallopers to be running on a Soft track after 20mls fell on the region on Sunday and Monday. Race 1 will start at 3:40pm (AEDT) with the last of 8 concluding at 7:30pm.

Find our four best bets for Mornington below and make sure to head over to our Racing Tips page for more Wednesday tips from around the country.

Mornington Racing Tips: December 13th 2023

Race 1: Austin Waterproofing Plate - 3:40pm (AEDT)

(1) Bon Appetit is having start number 10 here and despite still being a maiden he has run 2 quality seconds when beaten by a head. On both of those occasions he settled fairly handy and made up gradual ground over the 2000 and 2200m distances. The rise to 2400m looks ideal and Carleen Hefel has placed on him 3 times before so she knows what he's about.

(6) Royal Pharaoh was racing poorly until a very good 2nd at Geelong on a Heavy track last start. I reckon he would have gained confidence from that run.

(7) Alpine Rocket ran very well at Hamilton 2 starts back in the high weight race and backed that up with a good 3rd at Ararat last start.

(9) Slippery Ceejay was 1L behind Alpine Rocket last start.

(1) Bon Appetit - Win

$1.75 (4 Units)

Race 4: Rosebud Country Club Plate - 5:25pm (AEDT)

(3) Flying Knee was 2nd on debut when starting fav at Ballarat on June 9 and after a spell he has had two 2nd in jumpouts. The latest was on a Soft track so he should be able to handle the surface.

(1) Cable Town put in a bad one when 6th last start when starting second fav and he should improve here on conditions he has placed on.

(6) Rate of Knots is on debut for Amy & Ash Yargi and he has won a jumpout already.

(7) Sakasu is on debut for Clayton Douglas and he won a Mornington jumpout on November 22.

(3) Flying Knee - Win

$2.40 (2 Units)

Race 6: PY Timber Warehouse Handicap - 6:30pm (AEDT)

(3) Fun Enuff has drawn well in barrier 4 for Jamie Kah and she should be able to choose whether she goes back or lead from that draw. Two starts back Fun Enuff went back at Kyneton and run on well into 4th before changing tactics and leading all of the way last start at Geelong when 2nd favourite. I think she may roll forward from the draw and try to control the sectionals.

(2) Waitapu has a good second up record and will be fitter for his first run back (8th) in a race where he could never get into.

(1) Akrotiri resumes and finished just behind Keats in a recent jumpout. Keats went on to win the Werribee Cup on Sunday.

(5) Paint Me Red has never placed for Dan Stackhouse yet but looked good winning a jumpout at Hillside last week.

(3) Fun Enuff - Win

$3.50 (1 Unit)

Race 7: AESM Essential Services Handicap - 7pm (AEDT)

(7) Peace Treaty was only fair when resuming (4th) but after taking fitness out of the race he should be right to go here. He has won on the Heavy before so can handle wet ground and he probably wasn't ready for the 1200m first up but is now. On debut he did it easily after coming from midfield and a midfield run in transit is likely here.

(2) She’s Notorious has drawn inside and may roll more forward in this race. She goes better on Good tracks so won’t want any rain in the 24 hours leading up.

(6) Optume was a beaten favourite (2nd) before going out for a spell. She has trialed up fairly and should be fit enough to contend against a lot of fresh horses.

(8) Alaskan Storm was only 1.85L off them when 6th at this track two starts ago and I think there will be a similar margin here.

(7) Peace Treaty - Win

$2.20 (2 Units)
