Geelong Racing Tips: Saturday January 6th

January 5th 2024, 2:23pm, By: Brendan Bunworth

Geelong Racing Tips

After a winning day at Seymour on Wednesday, it's steady progress with our racing tips at midweek and Saturday metropolitan racing. This week Geelong gets a rare chance to host Saturday city racing with a massive 10-race program on offer.

Race one will start at 12:15pm (AEDT) and the track should be Good with no rain forecast for the next 48 hours.

The Black Pearl is the best race of the day and Va Via comes into the race looking like a good bet.

Brendan Bunworth is back with his best three bets of the day below.

Geelong Racing Tips: Saturday January 6th

Race 6: The Valley Inn Handicap 3:05pm (AEDT)

(6) Rich Fortune has won and placed in harder races than this and he was backed into fvourite when 3rd at Flemington on December 20. She likes Dry tracks and she usually settles around 4th in the run so barrier 4 looks ideal in this race. There is no Katsu or Najem Suhail in this event which will help her chances and the lightly raced mare has already won over this distance previously. When she does lose she rarely gets beaten far and after winning a jumpout before running her latest placing she is 100 percent fit now.

(4) Zac De Boss is one over the odds I reckon. He likes the Good and he likes the distance. He hasn’t won in a year and a half but his latest run was solid (3rd) at Ballarat and he is super fit.

(8) Sebonak will be running on hard at the end and barrier 7 is of no concern. He made up good late ground for 4th at Caulfield in the XMAS Stakes last start and he is due for a change of luck. Hasn’t placed over this distance as yet which is a concern for punters.

(6) Rich Fortune

$5.00 (1 unit)

Race 8: bet365 Coastal Classic - 4:20pm (AEDT)

(4) Bermadez gets another chance here after he again flew home for 2nd at Caulfield. He likes Geelong better and he likes the distance which he has won over before in just two starts. He was freshened before his latest good 2nd and in a way you could say that he is second up here. His second up form is good and at odds I think punters could play the Mike Moroney trained gelding each-way. McNeil rides for the second time and he drops another half a kilogram after Bermadez got a 5kg weight relief the start prior.

(2) Keats is the likely leader here and he will put some pace into the race. He did win the Werribee Cup in December on the Heavy and I think the track may be too hard for him on Saturday. He has won 3 from 4 over the distance and the even money on offer for a place might be enticing to punters.

(1) Junipal has drawn a touch wide in 12 and is another who probably wants some rain on Friday night. Likes Soft and Heavy tracks better but has to be included after running 2nd in the Werribee Cup behind Keats. Was 4th last time at Caulfield but was beaten less than a length.

(4) Bermadez E/W

$5.50/$2.10 (1u e/w)

Race 9: SEN Geelong Black Pearl Stakes - 5:00pm (AEDT)

(2) Va Via has the ability to run very good closing sectionals in her races and she did just that at Randwick last start when 4th. She goes well second up and she has won 3 from 8 over the distance which is key. Damien Lane hops on for the first time which is a bonus and the Dry ground should suit the James Cummings trained mare. Her last win was at Caulfield in August after settling on speed but she has learnt to settle back now and she is ready to fire.

(3) Waverider Buoy is second up and has won second up before. He has had 4 goes over this distance for 2 seconds and he looked good winning for JMac at Randwick on September 2 when he stormed home. He does get back so may make his run with Va Via.

(9) Danny’s St Darci has won 6 times from 18 starts over this distance and at double figure odds she has to be included. From barrier 3 she should settle around 3rd and if they do go slow up front it might suit her to get a late split. Decln Bates rides again and he has won on her before.

(2) Va Via

$3.40 (3 units)
