Flemington Racing Tips: Saturday January 13th

January 12th 2024, 3:51pm, By: Brendan Bunworth

Flemington Racing Tips

Flemington will host a massive 10-race program on Saturday with the 2-year-olds getting us underway at 12:13pm (AEDT). The track should stay a Good 4 after 31 degrees without rain is predicted in the region on Friday. The Group 3 Standish Handicap is the race of the day and that comes up in race eight.

Race two is where we start our Racing Tips at BeforeYouBet, with old Herman Hesse getting the nod!

Race 2: National Jockeys Trust Trophy - 12:48pm (AEDT)

(4) Herman Hesse drops back to the 2000m but is more than capable of a forward showing in this. He has won twice before over 2000m but it is his first try over the course at Flemington. The positive is the return of a Good track which will help his chances. He has won 4 from 18 races on the Good and has placed a couple of times in very good races on a Dry track. Daniel Moor rides for the first time and an each-way play here may get your money back if he runs 2nd or 3rd.

(7) Arugamama is the fav but does go up in class despite having won on 2 occasions from 3 tries over this distance. She has been starting a short price and has been saluting for punters in SA but it's always a big step when crossing the border.

(8) Golden Crusader is the stablemate of Herman Hesse but likes Soft tracks better. He is fitter being third up from a spell and he will roll forward.

(4) Herman Hesse E/W

$5/$1.70 (1U/2U)

Race 4: Readiness App Sprint - 1:58pm (AEDT)

(8) Keane Enuff was unlucky at Geelong last week when unable to get out in the run (10th). The gelding ran two very good seconds prior at The Valley when starting favourite and second favourite and it does feel like he is 100 percent fit. Jye McNeil is back on and he has won on him before. He was beaten a nose on a Good 4 surface two starts back and that is the same track conditions that he is likely to get here. Barrier 7 is a good draw and he should settle in around 4th position in the run.

(7) Who Shot Suzy drops 4kg for this but has drawn a touch wide in 10. A Softer track is probably better but she will roll forward and settle 1st or 2nd early. Celine Gaudray hops on for the first time.

(9) Princess Annalise has drawn wide for Dan Stackhouse in 11 and she is resuming. She is 1 from 1 over the distance and a forward run fresh wouldn’t surprise after an impressive jumpout.

(8) Keane Enuff

$4.20 (2 Units)

Race 8: Standish Handicap - Group 3 - 4:38pm (AEDT)

(2) Sghirrpa is the fav and deserves to be after winning the XMAS Stakes on Boxing Day at Caulfield. He settled midfield and was too good, beating Najem Suhail over 1100m. Craig Newitt rode on that occasion and he gets the gig again and i think the same tactics will be used from the inside barrier, a position of about 4th or 5th with a bit of speed on early. The Grey and Black gelding has won twice on Good tracks before and he has an excellent winning strike rate having won 6 of 13 starts.

(1) The Astrologist will go forward and put speed into the race but there are a couple of others in the race who go forward too. The blinkers go on and he loves Flemington. He hasn’t won in over a year but an each-way play here should be best.

(4) Curran will get back again and will run on very fast at the end. The worry is that he has only won once in 15 starts over this distance. He is flying, he likes good tracks but hasn’t raced that well at Flemington.

(2) Sghirrpa

$2.10 (4 Units)
