Caulfield Cup Racing Tips: Saturday, October 21st 2023

Race 1: Lamaro’s Hotel Plate - 12:15pm (AEDT)

(2) Brave Mead is third up here and fitter now and is primed to run a few forward races in a row over the remainder of the carnival. Mark Zahra is on top and from barrier 1 he should get a lovely run in transit. He was even money last time when 2nd at The Valley but he probably wasn’t 100 percent fit in that. He is now.

(3) Kaizad has drawn next to Brave Mead in 2 and has run top 3 in all runs on the Good. He will likely lead and he has won over this distance before.

(5) Reprisal won well at The Valley on the Soft and will position midfield in this. Want to see how he goes on Dry ground first before a bet.

(6) Kadinsky Abstract was ordinary last time but we have to respect the Waller/JMac combo.

(2) Brave Mead - Win

$2.70 (3 Units)

Race 2: Neds Classic Group 3 - 12:50pm (AEDT)

(2) Riff Rocket was very impressive when sprinting past the to win last time out at Flemington. He sees Caulfield for the first time and from barrier 1 should be able to position up 3rd or 4th in the run. The extra 200m in distance should be fine and he should be too good.

(1) Sunsource was 2nd behind the Rocket last start and may be a bridesmaid again. Can’t see how he makes up 5.5L.

(3) Apulia will get back but if there is fast pace in the race but can run on very well at the end.

(4) Gold Bullion may look to lead and try and pinch it otherwise I can't see him winning. Going well though and has won 2 on the bounce.

(2) Riff Rocket - Win

$1.50 (4 Units)

Race 3: Schweppes Ethereal Stakes Group 3 - 1:25pm (AEDT)

(1) Tropical Squall for the in-form Waterhouse & Bott combination has a wide barrier in 12 but she should be able to get over because he does have very good barrier manners. She looks the leader and she did lead all of the way at Randwick last start. She has won 3 from 4 starts with all wins being on a Good surface.

(4) Autumn Angel has drawn well in 3 and will be one of the best finishers late. The extra distance looks okay and she is 100 percent fit now.

(5) Konasana will go forward and Damien Lane has been riding well on her having won on her before as well as running a 2nd.

(8) Wings of Song is up in class and will go forward. Harder here but likes Dry ground.

(1) Tropical Squall - Win

$2 (3 Units)

Race 4: Stow Storage Gothic Stakes - 2pm (AEDT)

(8) Facile will be on pace in this and is more than capable in this class. She led and won at Warwick Farm last start when $1.50 and she may start fav again. Lane rides and she stays with 54kg.

(7) Dark Halo won at Wyong on a Soft track last start and in his second career start will attract plenty of support with leading trainers and a leading jockey in his corner.

(10) Gumdrops led and won at Ballarat last start but this is harder. Over the odds though.

(4) Prinzerro has drawn well in 3 and will settle in a forward position. Was outclassed in the Guineas Prelude (9th) but this is easier.

(8) Facile - Win

$3.20 (2 Units)

Race 5: Manhari Metals Thousand Guineas Prelude Group 2 - 2:35pm (AEDT)

(8) Inhibitions has drawn well in 3 and the Godolphin owned filly gets the quality JMac for the first time. She was good at The Valley (2nd) when beaten a neck and should go better on a slightly bigger track. Likes the Dry and will settle midfield in the run.

(10) Apache Song smashed them at Moe but this is a big step up. Willow is on and there is talk that she is pretty good.

(12) Lovely Lookin’ has Kah on for the first time and was a dominant winner at Morphettville last start.

(14) Moesha didn’t have much luck last time (3rd) and Billy Egan stays on.

(8) Inhibitions - Win

$4 (1 Unit)

Race 6: The McCafe Sprint Group 2 - 3:15pm (AEDT)

(6) Spacewalk won well when $1.50 last start at Warwick Farm and will start fav again here with Kah on top. He loves firm ground and although he will get back early, he can round them up late. Has won second up before and the distance is ideal.

(7) Doull drops a massive 8kg in weight and is 1 from 1 over this distance.

(4) General Beau has drawn inside and will settle on speed. Loves Dry ground and should run top 3. He likes Caulfield and has won 2 from 4 over this distance.

(1) Lofty Strike has Ollie on and does like Caulfield. Is resuming and does go well fresh.

(6) Spacewalk - Win

$2.50 (3 Units)

Race 7: Sharp EIT Tristarc Stakes Group 2 - 3:50pm (AEDT)

(9) Call Di may settle top 2 early in a race with very little early speed. Blake Shinn is on for the first time and her Sydney form is very sound. She was 5th in a Group 3 race behind Magic Time last start and this is slightly easier. Gets a good run here.

(8) C’est Magique will settle midfield but does she go better on wet ground? Drawn nicely and may start fav here.

(5) Wrote to Arataki is very consistent, and was only beaten half a length when 3rd in a god race at Flemington last start. Yendall stays on and would like to cap off an interesting week for himself with a win.

(2) Skew Wiff won a Cranbourne jumpout last week and is ready. First look at Caulfield under race conditions.

(9) Call Di - Win

$11 (1 Unit)

Race 8: NEDS Moonga Stakes (Group 3) - 4:30pm (AEDT)

(5) Umgawa is so consistent and from barrier 1 should get a cushy run again here on a Good surface. She was no watch for Tamerlane last start when 3rd but in that race Tamerlane controlled the speed up front and Umgawa still made up late ground. Caulfield form is poor so we will have to go each-way.

(2) The Fortune Teller goes better with more racing and is third up here. Has placed here and has placed in harder races than this.

(9) Times Square looks like she goes better on oft tracks so is one to watch in different track conditions but she can still place in this.

(10) Nunthorpe may lead again but wont get the cheap sectionals that she got last time.

(5) Umgawa - E/W

$12/$3.10 (1 Unit)

Race 9: Carlton Draught Caulfield Cup (Group 1) - 5:15pm (AEDT)

(5) Francesco Guardi was our tip a couple of months ago on this site when early markets were taking shape and we can't get off him now despite just running fairly of late. He is ready for the 2400m and has been tracking okay without capturing the eye of punters. He drops 3kg from the Turnbull Stakes and JMac is on. Barrier 15 is a slight concern but he will get back anyway and start his run from the 600m mark.

(2) Without A Fight will settle around 3rd in the run and if it's a slowly run affair then he is probably the one to beat. Zahra is on and has already won on him twice previously. The distance is no issue and he drops 3.5kg.

(6) West Wind Blows has a lovely barrier in 2 which will see him settle in the top 3 early. His Turnbull Stakes 2nd was brilliant and he will be 6 to 8L in from of the favourite Gold Trip with 600m to go.

(18) Valiant King has drawn 1 and will likely hug the rails for a long way. Kah is on and the King did run a good 2nd behind Melbourne Cup fav Vauban last start.

5) Francesco Guardi - Win

$15 (1 Unit)

Race 10: Carlton Draught Alinghi Stakes - 5:50pm (AEDT)

(6) Hypothetical has won 4 of 9 on Good ground and is drawn to lead here. His 2nd in the Norman Carlyon at The Valley two starts back was great and he was a beaten favourite at Morphettville after that behind Grey River. His third up record is very good and he is ready for this distance having won half of his career starts over it.

(5) Vivianne was too good again last start at this track but surely she can’t keep winning. She has won 5 in a row and gets her favourite jockey again in Damien Lane.

(8) Willinga Beast comes over from Sydney and was beaten for a placing (4th) at big odds last start which is a slight concern. Kris Lees knows how to peak his horses for a major race day and he is over the odds.

(9) Miss Middle Park is fresh but loves a Dry track. She will be big odds but she has been in the money on both occasions over this distance.

(6) Hypothetical - Win

$5.50 (1 Unit)
