Tigers vs Dolphins Preview & Betting Tips: NRL Round 16 2026

June 19th 2026, 3:42pm, By: Ben Bridge

Tigers vs Dolphins Betting Tips

Saturday afternoon at Campbelltown Sports Stadium gives us one of the more interesting post Origin betting spots of the round, as the Tigers host the Dolphins in a matchup where team list management and player turnaround have to be front and centre. This is not a normal round. Origin Game 2 was played on Wednesday night, leaving a short turnaround for players asked to back up, and that naturally makes this a smaller outlay betting week.

That said, I still see a clear edge with the Dolphins. My fair spread is closer to Dolphins -12.5, and with the line sitting around -6.5, I think the market is giving the Tigers too much respect at home. The concern is obvious: the Dolphins have several players coming off Origin involvement, but the key point is they are likely only without Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, who has been replaced by Trai Fuller at fullback. On the team lists, the Dolphins still name a strong side with Jack Bostock, Max Plath, Tom Flegler, and Kulikefu Finefeuiaki all expected to back up from Origin, while the Tigers have Api Koroisau named to back up after Origin.

Tigers vs Dolphins Prediction & Tips: 2026 NRL Round 16

Tigers Showed Fight, But Still Have Questions

The Tigers did exactly what they needed to do last week, responding to their horror 68-0 loss to Penrith with a gutsy 36-28 win over the Titans at Leichhardt Oval. It was a wild game, and far from perfect, but after the embarrassment of the week prior, the most important thing was simply showing some fight. Jarome Luai was the headline act, scoring a second half hat-trick after the Tigers had given up a 12-0 lead and allowed the Titans to pour on 24 unanswered points. Keano Kini was massive for Gold Coast with 316 running metres and involvement in three tries, but Luai’s late influence and Alex Seyfarth’s crucial try gave the Tigers a desperately needed result.

That win should help confidence, but it did not erase the broader concerns. The Tigers still conceded 28 points, still had defensive lapses, and still had a long stretch where they looked like they had lost control of the game. Against the Dolphins, that is dangerous, because the Redcliffe side have more attacking punch than the Titans and can score quickly when the ruck starts to roll.

Team news also makes this a difficult spot. Koroisau will back up from Origin, which is a big in, and he will be fresh given he didn’t get onto the field on Wednesday night. Adam Doueihi is named in the extended squad, while Tony Sukkar starts in the back row after Kai Pearce-Paul’s injury issues, and the Tigers still need their middle to stand up after recent defensive wobbles.

Wests can absolutely make this uncomfortable for a period, especially at Campbelltown. But they are still too volatile for mine. If Doueihi plays, this bet becomes a little less comfortable, but I still like the Dolphins to keep rolling.

Dolphins Still Have the Better Profile

The Dolphins come into this match as one of the form sides in the competition, and while the Origin turnaround creates some uncertainty, the team they have named still looks far stronger than the Tigers. Losing Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow would hurt any side, but Trai Fuller is a capable replacement and actually suits a fast, support based style. He is not Hammer, but he gives them energy, speed, and involvement from the back.

The key for the Dolphins is that their structure remains intact. Isaiya Katoa has continued to grow as the controlling half, Kodi Nikorima adds experience and movement, and Jeremy Marshall-King gives them ruck speed and defensive bite at hooker. With Farnworth, Isaako and Bostock still available in the outside backs, the Dolphins have enough strike to turn half-chances into points.

They also have the forwards to challenge the Tigers. Kaufusi, Gilbert, Molo, Lemuelu, Keeley, Ray Stone and Plath give them a hardworking group that should still be good enough to win territory. The Tigers can match them if they bring emotion early, but the Dolphins have a more consistent route to points and should be able to expose defensive fatigue if Wests are forced into repeat efforts.

The question is whether the Origin players back up with enough energy. That is why this is not a max bet. The Dolphins had multiple players involved around Origin, and the three-day turnaround is not ideal. But compared with most Origin affected spots, this one feels manageable. If Tabuai-Fidow is the main absentee and the rest get through, the road side still deserve to be a much bigger favourite than the current line suggests.

Tigers vs Dolphins Recent History

These teams have split their short head-to-head history since the Dolphins entered the competition. The most recent meeting came last season, when the Tigers beat the Dolphins 30-18 at Kayo Stadium in Round 3. Before that, the Dolphins won both 2024 meetings, 24-12 at Suncorp Stadium and 26-16 earlier in the season, while the Tigers edged a 24-23 thriller at CommBank Stadium in 2023.

Recent results:
• 2025 Round 3: Tigers def Dolphins 30-18
• 2024 Round 11: Dolphins def Tigers 24-12
• 2024 Round 5: Dolphins def Tigers 26-16
• 2023 Round 25: Tigers def Dolphins 24-23

The history is close enough to respect the Tigers, but this week’s matchup feels much more about current quality and team list depth than old results.

Dolphins to Prove Too Strong

This is a spot where I’m happy to back the better football team, even with the Origin caveat. The Dolphins have more strike, more reliable shape, and a stronger attacking baseline. The Tigers have emotion and home ground, but that is not enough for me when my fair spread is Dolphins -12.5.

The key matchup is the Dolphins’ edges against the Tigers’ defensive structure. Wests can look dangerous when Luai gets early ball and Bula supports through the middle, but defensively they still have too many loose patches. If the Dolphins win the ruck and get Katoa playing on the front foot, they should find points.

Trai Fuller replacing Tabuai-Fidow is a downgrade, but not enough to bring this number all the way back to -6.5. Fuller can support through the middle, push around offloads and keep the Dolphins’ attack moving. More importantly, the rest of the side remains strong enough to cover that absence.

The Tigers’ best chance is to start fast, ride the Campbelltown crowd and make the Dolphins feel the short turnaround. If Wests are still in the grind after 50 minutes, the bet becomes uncomfortable. But over 80 minutes, I trust the Dolphin’s attack and forward balance more.

This is still an Origin affected round, so staking should be sensible. But from a pure numbers and matchup point of view, Dolphins -6.5 is too short.

Tigers vs Dolphins Player Prop Bet

Isaako didn’t score last week, but I think he gets back into the try scoring column this week. The Tigers’ left edge defence is a weakness, and Isaako should exploit that.

J Isaako (1+ try)

Leg 1: Dolphins (-7.5) – See best bet.

Leg 2 J Isaako (1+ try) – See above best prop bet.

Leg 3: Taylan May (1+ try) – The Tigers’ centre has been in tremendous try scoring form this season when he’s played, and he should prove too strong for Bostock in the red zone.
