Another Wednesday means some good midweek racing to get us over the hump. There’s meetings at Randwick-Kensington, Sandown and Doomben where we can hopefully find a few winners.
Billy Bestford has had a look across the three meetings and has found his best bets for the day.
Horse Racing Tips: Wednesday, August 18th
Randwick-Kensington Race 1
Hoping to get the cash nice and early today with (1) Yearning who resumes following a handy debut prep. She’s obviously still a maiden but was only narrowly beaten on debut by Ashema and then followed that up with a very good run in the G2 Percy Sykes Stakes, finishing 5th. Recent trials have been good and she looks a filly with untapped ability.
Randwick-Kensington Race 4
(9) Billiondollarbaby is a very exciting filly who notched two straight wins to start her career in fine style. She looked to hardly find top gear in either of those wins so I think there is still plenty to come from her this prep and she should be much improved now. Bowman has been riding her at the trials and was on her for the last start win so he knows the horse well. She gets in well at the weights, draws softly in gate 2 and should be able to go straight to the lead and I’m confident she will be winning again.

Doomben Race 5
Thought (3) Highland Son should be closer to the favourite in the market here and looks a good bet. Three wide when first up and did well to finish so close then followed that up with a huge run for 2nd after missing the start last time out. Has put the writing on the wall and a win looks very close. I liked the 3kg claim for Jaden Lloyd and wouldn’t be surprised to see some market support for him.
Sandown Race 7
(6) Worsfold was well fancied in the market last week up against Tuvalu but was a late scratching due to track conditions. He should be 3/3 this prep following one of the sicker beats you’ll see last start at Sale. It’s clear this horse has plenty of abaility and this race looks no harder to last start, don’t mind the drop back in trip considering he missed a run last week and should be on the fresher side now.
Randwick-Kensington Race 7
(8) Miss Dior looks ready to win. She’s been running well in two runs this prep, and was starting a similar price as she is today in a strong Saturday race last time out. She was blocked for room there and finished 4th and I like her stepping out to 1100m here. The dry track suits and she’s drawn for every favour from gate 5. I think the favourite is talented but trials haven’t been anything to get excited about and I’m happy to take Miss Dior on a price perspective with race fitness on her side.
