Sandown Hillside will host midweek racing in Victoria on Wednesday and after a scorcher of a day yesterday, the track will be a Good 3 or 4.
The first of the day starts at 3:40pm (AEDT) and the quaddie legs will run through races 5-8. It’s not a bad program and punters will have to check scratchings on race morning.

Sandown Racing Tips: Wednesday, January 28th 2026
Race 2: Thoroughbred Club of Australia Plate 1300m - 4:15pm (AEDT)
(4) Saludar has had the one start and ran quite well when 4th on a Good track at Pakenham. He should get a good run in transit from barrier 3 where I think he will position up behind the leader. Was supported in betting on debut and Jordan Childs sticks with him.
(1) Burleigh has had a few chances now but is one of the fittest horses in the race and has shown that he will be winning a race very soon and we hope that's today. Since a freshen up he has been mixing his distances between 1100 and 1200m and has ran on from midfield his last couple to Place. The extra distance looks ideal and he really should be running top 3 again. A podium miss and it might be a trip back to the country tracks.
(8) Daisy Duck is a Chris Waller trained first starter who must be respected. Craig Williams is on top of the All Too Hard/Quackquack bred mare.
(4) Saludar E/W
$4.80/$1.95 (1u e/w)
Race 6: Sportsbet More Places Handicap 1400m - 6:30pm (AEDT)
(3) Godtfred Kirk we backed here last start when he run 4th. On that occasion at Geelong he got too far back but still ran on well and the extra 80m will suit here. Jamie Mott stays on and this guy did win when second up last campaign. The Ole Kirk/Just For Fun gelding will have benefited from two trials in and his first up effort and from barrier 4 he should get a gun run in midfield position early on
(2) Bold Strike was near last at Lakeside last start but ran on well for 3rd. Likes Dry ground and may get ridden a couple of pairs closer this time.
(8) Bellalique likes Dry ground and is experienced over this distance despite not having won in 6 attempts. Ran on at Terang two starts back when 2nd. Celine Gaudray rides for the first time.
(3) Godtfred Kirk
$3.60 (2 units)
Race 8: Sportsbet Race Replays Handicap 1800m - 7:30pm (AEDT)
(1) Taka Speed has proven that he can carry high weights in his races and run very well and he will have to do so again. He is going for 3 on the bounce after winning his last couple at Mornington and Pakenham and they were on Good tracks which he gets again. He rises to 1800m for the first time so the last 100m will be the key in this race. He has drawn well in 4 though and Rebecca Houston should settle him in around 4th position in the run.
(2) Waco Kid is going for four in a row after winning carrying 58kg his last couple. He has to carry 60.5kg here and will likely be on Taka Speed’s back as they turn from home. Has won 3 from 7 on Good ground. Logan Bates rides for the first time.
(4) Balinor is first up and normally does take a few runs to get going. He has placed 9 of 22 starts though and is good enough to run a drum after a 6 month spell.
(1) Taka Speed
$3.50 (1 unit)
