Saturday afternoon AFL kicks off at the home of football as Carlton and North Melbourne go head-to-head at the MCG. With the Blues playing some underwhelming footy and missing some key players, can the Roos finally claim a scalp in season 2025?

Carlton vs North Melbourne: 2025 AFL Round 15
Blues Unconvincing Yet Again
After jumping out to a hot start against the bottom of the ladder Eagles, Carlton once again put in an unconvincing second half in a 34-point win. The Blues kicked 7 goals to 1 in the first quarter, but were outscored 6 goals to 5 in the final three quarters against the worst team in the competition. The Blues have been incredibly fortunate with the fixture the AFL gave them, with 5 of their 6 wins coming against sides 12th or lower on the ladder. They get another game this weekend against a side towards the bottom of the ladder, as well as next week when they play Port Adelaide. It’s a golden opportunity for the Blues to put themselves in the mix for a finals place, can they take their opportunity?
Another Honorable Loss For The Roos
North Melbourne sit 16th on the ladder with a 3-9-1 record in what hasn’t quite been the improvement from a win-loss ratio that Roos fans were hoping for. However the Roos have been much more competitive this season, with four of their nine losses coming by under 17 points. For comparison, at this point last year North Melbourne were 1-12 with only one of their 12 losses coming by less than 25 points. A lot of the Kangaroos improvement can be credited to their work in the clearance game, which they rank 2nd in the AFL. North Melbourne hasn’t ranked higher than 9th in the AFL for clearances since 2013. It’s a very slow burn and there’s still a long way to go, but there are signs that the Roos are on the path to being a competitive side.
The Stats That Matter
Although these two sides haven’t had great seasons, they are among the best clearance teams in the competition. As mentioned earlier the Roos are ranked 2nd, while Carlton ranks 5th for clearances in 2025. As is to be expected when they’re strong clearance teams, they are also great contested ball winning teams, with Carlton ranking 1st in the league for contested possessions and North Melbourne ranking 5th. It’s safe to say the battle at the coalface will be a crucial factor in this clash.
A big differentiating factor between the two sides is the ability to score, with Carlton piling up the points in games against the Kangaroos. The Blues have registered 100+ points in each of their last five games against North Melbourne, including scoring 153 points against the Roos in Round 6 this season. Harry McKay being out will help the Roos, but they still have to quell Charlie Curnow, who has absolutely dominated them in recent times.
Blues or Kangaroos? Here’s our Carlton vs North Melbourne Tip
Given the Blues are without Sam Walsh and Harry McKay, and the football they’ve produced this season, this should be the most competitive clash between these two sides in the last few years. The big question for the Roos will be if their defence can hold up against Carlton’s forward line, having conceded 97+ points in seven of their thirteen games in 2025.
Carlton’s record against North Melbourne is impossible to overlook either, with five straight wins over the Roos coming at an average winning margin of 46 points. Although it shouldn’t turn out like the 82-point hiding the Kangaroos copped in Round 6, the gap in talent between North Melbourne’s backline and Carlton’s forward line is too big of a gap to overcome. The Kangaroos rank last in the competition for points scored from turnover, and have conceded an average of 50 points per game from turnover, including 69 points from turnover against Carlton earlier this season.

Carlton vs North Melbourne Player Prop Bets
Our Best Player Prop: Charlie Curnow 4+ Goals
Much like Carlton, Charlie Curnow has certainly filled his boots against the struggling sides of the competition, and North have not found a way to contain the two time Coleman Medalist. Curnow’s last five games against North Melbourne has seen him kick 4, 4, 4, 6 and 3 goals. With no Harry McKay in the lineup, expect Curnow to see plenty of ball coming his way, and eventhough he enters the match under an injury cloud, he should be en route to another strong performance against the Kangaroos.

George Hewett 25+ Disposals: George Hewett has been Carlton’s best player, in a career best season for the former Swan. Hewett is averaging 28 disposals per game and has reached the 25+ disposal mark in 12 out of his 13 games in 2025. Hewett recorded 34 disposals when the Blues faced the Roos earlier this season.
Harry Sheezel 25+ Disposals: Game in, game out, Harry Sheezel continues to rack up the footy, averaging 28 disposals per game in 2025. After a quiet fortnight leading into the bye where he spent a lot of time in the forward line, Sheezel has produced 28 and 32 disposal performances in the last two weeks. Sheezel has hit the 25+ mark in 11 of his 13 games this season.
Paul Curtis 2+ Goals: Curtis is having a breakout season in 2025, having kicked 22 goals from 10 games, a remarkable return for a small forward in a bottom 3 side. Curtis has kicked multiple goals in 8 of his 10 games this season, including 3 against the Blues in Round 6.
Charlie Curnow 2+ Goals: As highlighted earlier, Curnow feasts against North Melbourne, with five straight games of 3+ goals. Curnow has kicked 2+ goals in 8 of his last 9 games.
