2025 AFLW Round 4 Betting Tips

Melbourne vs Richmond

Saturday 6th September, 12:35 pm, Casey Fields

Melbourne remains one of the competition’s most dangerous teams, sitting second on the ladder with a perfect 3-0 record and a whopping percentage of 303.2%. The Demons had their first challenge of the season last week however, with Grace Campbell’s miss after the siren seeing the Dees win by 4 points.

Richmond, in contrast, are desperate for their first win of the season. They’ve suffered losses to the Bombers, Bulldogs and Swans, and face a difficult challenge backing up from difficult conditions in Darwin. The Tigers desperately need some improvement from their forward line, which kicked 3.10 last week against Essendon, and are yet to kick a score above 40 points this season.

This looms as a bloodbath with one of the best sides in the league out to keep their form going, coming up against a side that has struggled to connect in the front half. Richmond are winless from their last seven games dating back to Round 8 of last season and have never beaten Melbourne in an AFLW fixture. The Demons have an average winning margin of 42 points this season, and will be far too strong for the struggling Tigers.

Gold Coast Suns vs GWS Giants

Saturday 6 September, 1:05 pm, People First Stadium

Gold Coast have had a horror start to 2025, sitting in 18th spot with three losses by combined margin of 165 points. They have conceded 100+ points in their last two games against Port Adelaide and Sydney, which resulted in losses of 82 and 68 points. Injuries to Claudia Whitfort (calf),Meara Girvan (concussion) and Charlotte Wilson (knee) make life even more difficult for the struggling Suns.

The Giants aren’t fairing much better, also holding an 0-3 record and occupying 17th place on the ladder. GWS have been competitive over the last fortnight, however it’s clear they don’t have the potency in their attacking game to match it with a lot of sides in the league.

Given the struggles of these two sides it’s a tough game to pick, however Gold Coast’s defence has been absolutely horrendous, which should give GWS an opportunity to score more freely than they have so far in 2025. The Giants have won four out of the six meetings between the two sides, and will find a way to pick up their first win of the season.

Carlton vs Western Bulldogs

Saturday 6 September, 3:05 pm, Ikon Park

Carlton moved into the top eight with a statement win, knocking off last year’s Grand Finalist’s Brisbane, away from home. The Blues played some of the best football they’ve produced since the early days of the AFLW, led by Abbie McKay (32 disposals), Dayna Finn (29) and Mimi Hill (25).

The Bulldogs lost an ugly clash at home against the Hawks, kicking just one goal in a two point loss to the Hawks. It’s the second time in three games so far this season that the Dogs were held to just one goal, after being held to one goal or less on four occasions last season. The Bulldogs inability to score looms as a massive issue against a Carlton side that is starting to figure out their attacking brand.

Carlton will be buoyed after their stunning win last week, and it’s difficult to have much faith in a side that has only kicked 8 goals in three games - with 6 of them coming against a winless side. With conditions set to be brilliant for football on Saturday, the Blues should be on an attacking show against the struggling Western Bulldogs.

Carlton -19.5

Hawthorn vs St Kilda

Saturday 6 September, 7:15 pm, Cazalys Stadium

Hawthorn sit in 5th place with a perfect 3-0 record, but it hasn’t exactly been an impressive start to the season. The Hawks have had three single digit victories, with their struggles in the front half beginning to become an issue. Hawthorn were one of the most dangerous attacking sides in the league this season, but have only managed 9 goals through their opening three games and only managed four scoring shots against the Bulldogs last week.

After a Round 1 upset over Adelaide, the Saints have been brought back to earth with back to back defeats. Against a young West Coast side at home, the Saints looked like they had the game won when they led four goals to one at three quarter time. However St Kilda conceded five goals to none in the final quarter, to lose by fourteen points. The Saints cannot afford to fall to 1-3 with a difficult schedule upcoming.

This game gives the Hawks a great opportunity to get their attacking game back in order against an out of form St Kilda side. Hawthorn trounced St Kilda by 57 points last season, and they should be able to produce another comfortable win against the Saints, who face a big challenge travelling to Cairns after three straight games in Melbourne to start the season.

Hawthorn -15.5

Sydney Swans vs Fremantle

Sunday 7th September, 1:05 pm, Henson Park

The first fixture on Sunday’s five game slate sees Sydney hosting Fremantle at Henson Park. The Swans are in red hot form after a 3-0 start, while Fremantle are reeling after conceding the highest ever score in the AFLW, in a 100 point defeat to North Melbourne. The 100 point loss comes just a week after their 70 point defeat to Brisbane, with the Dockers conceding 219 points over the last fortnight.

Sydney has shown an improved attacking game in 2025, averaging 70 points per game across the first three rounds of the season. After missing nearly all of last season with an ACL injury, Chloe Molloy is the league’s leading goal kicker with 12 goals, four more than the next best player. Molloy will be full of confidence against a struggling Fremantle defence, and should be able to extend her lead as the top goal kicker.

This could be one of the biggest blowouts of the weekend, Freo are struggling badly, the Swans are full of momentum and belief. The Dockers will be under plenty of pressure without Emma O’Driscoll who is out with a concussion, making things even more difficult for the Dockers. Fremantle are in serious danger of conceding 100+ for a third straight week, in what will be a big win for the Swans.

Sydney -24.5

Adelaide Crows vs Brisbane Lions

Sunday 7th September, 1:05 pm, Norwood Oval

Two clubs who have been renowned powerhouses in the competition, come into Round 4 under some pressure. After losing the 2024 Grand Final, Brisbane comes into this week sitting 1-2 after being upset at home by Carlton. The Crows got ahead of the win/loss ledger after their 32 point win over GWS, which has Adelaide in sixth place, but needing to win to stay in the top eight.

Brisbane will need a lift from its backline, who has had some lapses over the opening three weeks of the season. The Lions conceded 5 goals in the second quarter against the Blues, which was ultimately the difference in a 14 point defeat. On the other hand, Adelaide’s defence has been brilliant over the last two weeks, conceding just five goals.

This looms as a season defining game for both clubs, the Lions can’t afford to be 1-3, while a win for Adelaide puts them in a great position to play finals. If Adelaide’s experienced midfielders can gain the ascendancy in the middle of the ground and control the territory battle, the Crows defence will suffocate Brisbane in a low scoring affair.

Adelaide 1-24

North Melbourne vs Collingwood

Sunday 7th September, 3:05 pm, Arden Street Oval

North Melbourne are simply unstoppable. A league record score of 114 points secured a league best 15th consecutive win, and all roads point towards back to back for the Kangaroos. North Melbourne sit at the top of the ladder with three wins, zero losses and a mind blowing percentage of 504%. The Roos have kicked an average score of 84 points per game and conceded an average score of just 16 points per game.

Collingwood fell four points short of an upset win against Melbourne, with Grace Campbell hitting the post after the siren. The Pies were left to rue an inaccurate day in front of goal, kicking 4.9 and missing some easy chances in the final quarter. The Magpies face another test against the competition's elite, but they should take some confidence from how competitive they were against Melbourne.

North Melbourne are on an utterly dominant run and despite how big the handicap markets are, it feels impossible to back against the Roos. North Melbourne are yet to concede over three goals in a game, so even if their attacking game isn’t at its absolute best, they should be able to win by a convincing margin against an inexperienced Collingwood.

North Melbourne -46.5

$1.82 (1 unit)

Essendon vs Geelong Cats

Sunday 7th September, 3:05 pm, Windy Hill

Spirits are high at Windy Hill after the Bombers grinded out another win to move to 3-0 on the season. The conditions in Darwin were tough and the Bombers lost most of the key stats, but their defence stood tall as the Dons led for the entirety of the game. Georgia Nanscawen continued her brilliant season with 27 disposals, while Madi Prespakis had 24.

Geelong dropped their third straight game to start the season, 0-3, in a heartbreaking 5 point loss to Sydney. Although the ladder doesn’t make for great reading, the Cats have lost to North Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney - and been competitive in all three games. While Essendon are 3-0, their only convincing performance was in Round 1 against GWS.

This is a massive danger game for the Bombers, and Geelong will be desperate to keep their season alive with a win. If Geelong’s defence can make things difficult for Essendon, it will put the Bombers midfield to get more supply to them, which they haven’t been great at. Geelong have won two of the three meetings between the two sides, and will get their first win of the season on Sunday.

Geelong 1-24

$2.20 (1.5 units)

West Coast Eagles vs Port Adelaide

Sunday 7 Sep, 5:05 pm, Mineral Resources Park

Round 4 concludes in the west, with West Coast and Port Adelaide riding high after wins in Round 3. Although they only held the record for 12 hours, Port Adelaide kicked the highest score in AFLW history in their 68 point win over Gold Coast. Matilda Scholz and Gemma Houghton both kicked 4 goals, and Port have a great opportunity to press for a top eight spot with a win on Sunday.

The Eagles produced their greatest AFLW win last week, kicking five unanswered goals in the final quarter to beat St Kilda by 14 points. Ella Roberts continued her brilliant season with 23 disposals, 9 marks, 7 tackles and 3 clearances, Roberts will need to produce another big game for the Eagles to get over the line on Sunday.

This game will pit a matchup of skills against physicality. If the Eagles can get the game to be played on the outside in open space, their foot skills and pace will reign supreme. However if the Power can keep the gumball in tight, their contest work and marking will be too strong for the Eagles. Port Adelaide’s ceiling from an offensive standpoint has them just ahead in this clash, which should be a ripping affair.
