Meanwhile, the Spurs pulled off the upset of the season, edging out the juggernaut Oklahoma City Thunder 111–109 to snap their 16-game winning streak.
The tactical battle centres on the contrast between New York’s perimeter clinicality and San Antonio’s interior dominance. For the Knicks, the offensive engine runs through the "Nova Knicks" core, with Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby tasked with slowing down the Spurs' transition game. However, all eyes will be on the match-up in the paint: Karl-Anthony Towns versus Victor Wembanyama. Wembanyama, who recently returned from a calf strain, looked terrifyingly efficient in the semi-finals, recording 22 points and 9 rebounds in just 21 minutes.

San Antonio has already dispatched the Western Conference's elite during this tournament, and the "Wemby Effect" on defence often forces even the best shooters into uncharacteristic mistakes.
In what promises to be a high-stakes finale, expect San Antonio to weather an early Knicks barrage. The Spurs' depth, led by Devin Vassell and rookie standout Stephon Castle, should provide enough secondary scoring to keep pace before Wembanyama takes over in the fourth quarter. Behind a defensive masterclass from their young French phenom, the Spurs are good value to secure the 2025 NBA Cup title.
