There’s plenty of quality midweek horse racing around Australia this Wednesday, and we’ve cast an eye over the form guides to find our best bets for the day. Our attention turns to Geelong and Northam, with two selections at each meeting.
We’re keen on a short-priced runner early at Geelong, while there also looks to be some each-way value later on the card. In the west, we’ve found two runners at Northam that look well placed to break through.

(10) True Rebel made an impressive racetrack debut, finishing third at Bendigo over 1300m. The three-year-old gelding settled ninth in the run and was winding up in the home straight, charging through the line to be beaten by an official margin of just 0.12 lengths. The step up in trip looks perfect for the Danny O’Brien-trained gelding and the form line behind the winner, Zambales, is impressive, with that horse having contested the Golden Slipper, Sires’ Produce Stakes and Champagne Stakes. There is a lot to like about True Rebel in this race.
(8) Meness was second in the True Rebel race, but he led the field and had every opportunity to win. Gate three ensures Mark Zahra can settle on the speed once again and he will have the early break on True Rebel. I am expecting one of the pair to win and the market reflects that.

(3) Fringilla is a Godolphin filly trained by Team Hayes and she finished sixth on debut at Bendigo over 1300m. She comes out of the same race as the top two chances, True Rebel and Meness, in the previous race. She was fair in that debut effort, but I suspect the form will be good coming out of it. From the inside gate, Jamie Melham should be looking to settle in the first two or three runners and the filly should derive benefit from her previous race-day experience.
(7) Platinum Pearl has been placed in both career runs. Most recently, she finished second at Seymour over 1300m when racing outside the leader, finding the front late and just being run over on the line. Her early speed will be an asset as Ethan Brown can work across to find a forward position or take up the running.

(2) Official Business has been beaten as favourite at his past two starts, the latest seeing him nabbed right on the line after looking like he would break through. He has been $2 and $1.80 in those races, which makes a bigger price more appealing this time around. Chris Parnham will want to take the colt forward and, if he can get a nice run on the speed, he could break his maiden at start five.
(14) More Darling won a trial before finishing second at her next trial behind Bourbonontherocks, who makes his debut in this race. Both of those should be competitive in this field. More Darling will have Willie Pike riding and, while she will probably be in the second half of the field due to her wide draw, she has shown she can jump well, so Pike will have options.

(3) Rory’s Revenge sees Willie Pike jump aboard following a fourth-placed effort over course and distance on September 3. He was a $61 outsider when doing his best work to finish just behind Ruthless Bloom. He showed excellent improvement in that second-up run and now, third-up from a spell with Pike booked and gate five, he will hopefully settle a touch closer this week and prove hard to hold out late.
(9) Ruthless Bloom was third in the same race as Rory’s Revenge and, from gate four, she looks to have strong claims in the race too. Lucy Fiore picks up the ride and is riding with a lot of confidence. Plenty to like about this mare too.
