NFL 2026-27: Week 1 Monday Preview & Betting Tips

September 13th 2026, 1:18pm, By: Andy Rosos

NFL Week 1 Monday Betting Tips

The first full Monday slate of the 2026-27 NFL season has arrived, with a massive day of action headlined by a pair of NFC divisional clashes in the late window before the Cowboys and Giants take centre stage on Monday morning. Week 1 always brings plenty of uncertainty after an offseason of roster and coaching changes, but there are still some strong betting angles across the card.

NFL Week 1 Monday Betting Tips

Washington Commanders at Philadelphia Eagles

6:25am AEST

Washington enters its third season under Dan Quinn looking to bounce back after missing the playoffs in 2025. Jayden Daniels returns after an injury-interrupted season, but the Commanders have undergone significant change around him, including new offensive and defensive coordinators. The biggest concern entering Week 1 is an offensive line that will be without Laremy Tunsil, leaving Daniels facing a difficult assignment against one of the deepest defensive fronts in football.

Philadelphia is also working through changes after a disappointing end to last season, most notably the departure of A.J. Brown and the arrival of Sean Mannion as offensive coordinator. The expectation is for the Eagles to lean heavily on Saquon Barkley and the running game while allowing Jalen Hurts to work off play action. Defensively, Philadelphia remains stacked and added further quality during the offseason, giving the Eagles an obvious advantage in the trenches against Washington.

Prediction: Week 1 divisional games can be dangerous spots for favourites, but the matchup up front makes Philadelphia difficult to oppose. Washington's offensive line could struggle to consistently protect Daniels, while the Eagles should be able to establish the run and control possession. With Philadelphia sitting around a 5.5-point favourite, we'll back the home side to create some separation as the game progresses.

Eagles -5.5

Green Bay Packers at Minnesota Vikings

6:25am AEST

Green Bay comes into 2026 after finishing 9-7-1 last season and reaching the playoffs for a third consecutive year. Jordan Love remains at the centre of an offence with plenty of weapons, but the Packers face a difficult opening assignment on the road against a Minnesota defence capable of generating pressure and forcing quarterbacks into mistakes.

Minnesota gets the benefit of opening its season at U.S. Bank Stadium, where the crowd can make life particularly uncomfortable for opposing offences. The Vikings enter this matchup as a narrow favourite, with CBS Sports highlighting how evenly matched these NFC North rivals appear entering the new campaign. The market has Minnesota laying around 1.5 points in what is expected to be one of the closest games of the Week 1 slate.

Prediction: There isn't much separating these teams on paper, which makes the home-field advantage particularly important. Green Bay has enough offensive talent to keep this tight throughout, but Minnesota's defence and the environment at U.S. Bank Stadium could be enough to produce the decisive moments. We'll side with the Vikings at the short number.

Vikings -1.5

Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants

10:20am AEST

Dallas begins its second season under Brian Schottenheimer after going 7-9-1 in 2025 and missing the playoffs. Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb remain the key pieces of an offence that should again be capable of putting up points, but the Cowboys enter Week 1 with considerable change on the other side of the ball. Their defence returns only three starters and will operate under new defensive coordinator Christian Parker.

The Giants begin a new era under John Harbaugh and will be hoping an improved offensive line can provide a more stable platform this season. New York finished 2025 by beating Dallas 34-17, although that came against a Cowboys team resting players and followed nine consecutive Dallas victories in the rivalry. The Giants also spent the offseason attempting to address a run defence that was a major weakness last year.

Prediction: There are enough unknowns defensively on both sides to make the total more appealing than laying points with Dallas on the road. The Cowboys still possess plenty of firepower through Prescott and Lamb, while New York should have opportunities against a Dallas defence undergoing substantial change. With the total sitting around 48.5, we'll back the Sunday Night Football opener to turn into a shootout.
