Tigers vs Panthers Preview & Betting Tips: NRL Round 14 2026

June 6th 2026, 12:09pm, By: Ben Bridge

Tigers vs Panthers Betting Tips

Sunday afternoon at CommBank Stadium gives us a familiar underdog versus benchmark setup, with the Tigers hosting the Panthers in a game where Penrith should be too strong if they bring anything close to their usual standard. Wests have significantly improved this season, but they are now missing important forward pieces, and that is a major problem against a Panthers side that can suffocate teams through territory, patience and middle-third control.

My fair spread is around Panthers -16.5, and I’m happy to take Penrith 13+. The Tigers are without Alex Twal and Samuela Fainu, two key forwards who help them compete physically and hold shape defensively. Against most sides that hurts. Against Penrith, it can be decisive.

The Panthers will welcome back their three Origin stars in Nathan Cleary, Isaah Yeo, and Brian To’o, and are essentially at full strength heading into this clash with the Tigers. They would love a dominant win heading into the bye in round 15, maintaining their 4-point gap to the Warriors at the top of the table.

Tigers vs Panthers Prediction & Tips: 2026 NRL Round 14

Tigers Competitive, But Forward Losses Hurt

The Tigers’ 22-16 win over Canterbury last week was another sign this team is no longer the automatic fade it has been in previous years. They were gritty, defended well enough, and found a way to win a tight game against a Bulldogs side that has been difficult to put away. That result backed up the idea that the Tigers are playing with far more belief and structure than they have in the past.

The spine is also much better than it was in previous seasons. Jahream Bula gives them spark from the back, Jarome Luai brings control and confidence, Jock Madden has settled into the No.7 role with Adam Doueihi missing, and Api Koroisau remains the key to their ruck speed and game management. With Terrell May and Fonua Pole up front, they can still generate momentum.

But this week is a different level of challenge. Losing Alex Twal and Samuela Fainu takes away defensive work rate and physical presence. Fainu’s edge power has been important, while Twal’s reliability through the middle helps the Tigers absorb pressure. Against the Panthers, those are exactly the kind of players you need.

The home side can compete if they complete at a high percentage and keep Penrith working out of their own end. But if they lose the middle, they may not have enough defensive depth to hold Penrith out for repeated sets. The Tigers have improved, but improved does not mean ready to match the competition benchmark when missing key forwards.

Panthers Keep Finding Ways to Win

Penrith’s 20-18 win over the Warriors last week was another example of their ability to win tight, high-quality games even when they are not at their most fluent. The Warriors were denied a potential match winning try late after a video review found Jackson Ford had touched the ball, and the Panthers held on for their seventh straight victory.

That win was even more impressive given Penrith were without key players including Nathan Cleary, Isaah Yeo and Brian To’o, who were all rested after their big win in Origin 1. They still found a way, with Paul Alamoti scoring the decisive try after an earlier error, which was not missed by ex-Panther James Fisher-Harris.

This week, the Panthers look stronger on paper. Cleary, Yeo and To’o are named, which immediately lifts their floor and ceiling. When those three are in the side, Penrith’s game becomes so much more repeatable: Cleary controls territory, Yeo links the middle, and To’o gives them huge yardage out of trouble.

The one thing that has been true for Penrith over the past month is that they haven’t always looked explosive. But against the Tigers, they may not need to be. Their system is built to grind down teams, and with Wests missing key forwards, the Panthers should be able to build pressure through possession, kick chase and line speed.

Once Penrith get on top, they are one of the hardest teams in the competition to slow down. That is why the 13+ angle appeals.

Tigers vs Panthers Recent History

The two meetings last season were both won by Penrith, although they played out very differently. In Round 14, the Panthers edged the Tigers 18-14 at CommBank Stadium when the Tigers were listed as the home side, with Thomas Jenkins scoring a hat-trick. Later in the season, Penrith won far more comfortably, winning 36-2 in round 21 once again at CommBank Stadium.

Recent results:
• 2025 Round 21: Panthers def Tigers 36-2
• 2025 Round 14: Panthers def Tigers 18-14
• 2024 Round 7: Panthers def Tigers 22-6
• 2023 Round 9: Tigers def Panthers 12-8
• 2022 Round 18: Panthers def Tigers 18-16

The Tigers have had moments against Penrith, including that famous upset in 2023, but the overall trend is clear: Penrith usually control this matchup, albeit with tighter matchups than generally predicted.

Panthers to Win With Relative Ease

I respect the Tigers more than I did last season, but this looks like a tough matchup at a tough time. Wests have improved their attitude this season, their effort is real, and they can absolutely make this competitive for a period. But the forward absences are a major issue, and Penrith are exactly the wrong opponent to face when your middle/edge rotation is compromised.

My number is Panthers -16.5, and that points clearly toward Penrith 13+. The Panthers don’t need a perfect attacking day to get there. They need to build pressure, control territory and let their defensive system create fatigue.

That is what Penrith do better than anyone. Cleary can kick the Tigers into corners, Yeo can straighten the attack and To’o can get them out of trouble with strong yardage carries. If Wests are defending long sets without Twal and Fainu, the cracks should eventually come.

The Tigers’ best chance is to start fast and make this a scoreboard game early. If they are still in it at halftime, they can create some stress. But over 80 minutes, I don’t trust them to absorb Penrith’s pressure.

This feels like a game where Penrith may only lead by 6 or 8 at the break, then grind the Tigers down and extend late. That is a perfect 13+ profile.

Tigers vs Panthers Player Prop Bet

Panthers’ bulldozer winger had a rough time of it in Origin 1, making three critical errors in the first half. He will want to put that behind him, and I trust him to do it this week against a weak Tigers’ left edge defence.

Brian To’o (1+ try)

Leg 1: Panthers (13+) – See Best Bet.

Leg 2: B To’o (1+ try) – See best prop bet.

Leg 3: S Turuva (1+ try) – Turuva is in a great spot this week for three reasons. One, the revenge factor, taking on his hold team. Two, he’s on the right edge, with the Panthers’ left edge being their weakness. And three, he’s outside Kai Pearce-Paul, one of the best late off loaders in the game. This all signals try time for Tito.
