Sea Eagles vs Storm Predictions & Tips: NRL Round 17 2026
Disappointing and underachieving
It was a step backwards in the Sea Eagles season as they suffered a 13-12 road loss to the Bulldogs. Expected to perform better as favourites, they were lacklustre in their execution and failed to build pressure when it mattered. The outcome is even more frustrating considering they had a greater share of possession (52%), completed higher with the ball (82%), made more metres (8.4m per carry) and PCM’s (651), and had 7 line breaks. They also missed just 24 tackles but when it came to the deciding moments of the match, they were flat. If it is replicated within a few weeks, it could become an issue for them.
The Storm are back, but not to their best
The way that the Storm executed their 42-20 victory against the Raiders at home indicates that confidence is returning to this team. In a first half shootout, the teams were locked at 20-all at HT. Managing to keep their opponents scoreless in the second half was a great achievement, while also producing some exciting play of their own. The victory was established via a 53% share of possession, 86% completion rate, 8.7m per carry, 549 PCM’s, and 7 line breaks. Before stating they’re back though, the performance should be put into perspective; the Raiders are a team that is struggling, and defensive lapses (37 missed tackles) will not go unpunished by stronger opponents as the Finals approach.
Stats that matter
- Since 2021, the home team has lost just 25% of matches. It is no surprise that the Sea Eagles have a strong record at home, winning 62%, while the Storm win 46% of matches here.
- In the past 5 matches, the average margin of victory is 12 points, with 3 games decided by 10 points or less. In the same number of matches, the average total points is 41.6.
- It is no surprise that the Sea Eagles have been the superior team on both sides of the ball in 2026. They average 27ppg in attack compared to the Storm 25ppg. They have a larger advantage in defence, allowing just 18ppg compared to the Storms 24ppg.
The battle will resume
The Sea Eagles are far too short for this contest. With impacting factors such as being at home and the Storm losing their halfback, the price has shortened. Hughes’ omission for the visitors does hurt their cause but they also have a worthy replacement in Wishart. The Sea Eagles were shown to be vulnerable last week. Their returning stars will benefit from an outing ahead of this game but they the Storm are also a team that is growing in confidence. Their most recent effort displayed as much, and this is a game they need to win as another Origin break approaches. They will have a gameplan drawn up which is designed to disrupt their opponents and similar approaches have shown to work in the past. In equal measure, it is a great test of where the home side is at. As capable as any team, a loss can often destroy a team’s confidence. For these reasons, this game looks set to go down to the wire, with the winner only emerging late in this contest.

Sea Eagles vs Storm Same Game Multi
Leg 1 = Total points under 47.5 – see above for justification.
Leg 2 = Koula to score – he has dominated games against the Storm recently with 5 tries from his past 4 matches. Combine this with a strong record at this ground and a recent promotion to the Origin arena, and Koula should have what it takes to cross the line for his team.
Leg 3 = Munster to score – he is getting back to his best and it is no surprise it coincides with a need from his state. He has 3 tries from his past 4 matches against the Sea Eagles and crossed last week for the Storm. Watch for him to dominate the game as much as possible.
