EPL 2025-26: Matchday 24 Preview & Betting Tips
Liverpool vs Newcastle
Anfield, Sunday 1st February, 7:00am AEDT
Both Liverpool and Newcastle will be looking to bounce back from disappointing losses when they meet at Anfield on Sunday morning. Liverpool dropped from fourth to sixth on the table after a 3-2 defeat against thirteenth placed Bournemouth, conceding a scrappy goal in the 95th minute from a long throw-in. Newcastle missed a chance to be in the top six, and are now in ninth place after a 2-0 defeat against Aston Villa where they couldn’t create high quality opportunities at goal despite dominating possession.
A lack of attacking potency has hamstrung Newcastle who rank 12th for goals scored this season, after ranking 4th, 4th and 6th in the last three seasons. If they want to contend for European football, they need to produce more consistent football in the front half. Liverpool have been vulnerable at the back this season, ranking 13th having conceded 32 goals, their worst defensive ranking in years. If there was a time for the Magpies to turn things around, it could be this week.
Liverpool have played in four draws in their last five games, and it would’ve been five if it wasn’t for a 95th minute goal last week. Newcastle have drawn four of their eleven away games this season, and would probably walk away from Anfield happy with a share of the points. Liverpool’s mediocre defence and Newcastle’s struggles to score will probably end up cancelling each other out, in a closely contested affair at Anfield.
Aston Villa vs Brentford - Villa Park
Monday 2nd February, 1:00am AEDT
It’s a battle of third versus eighth in Birmingham as Aston Villa host Brentford in a big game for both teams. Aston Villa are back in the title race after results went their way on Matchday 24, with their 2-0 win away from home against Newcastle moving them within four points of first place. Back to back losses has seen Brentford drop from fifth to eighth, dropping crucial points against seventeenth place Nottingham Forest. The Bees are four points behind fifth placed Chelsea, and need to get back on track to stay in the hunt for European football.
Brentford’s defence, which is ranked in the bottom half of the Premier League has let them down over the past fortnight, conceding two goals to both Chelsea and Nottingham Forest. Allowing Forest to score two goals from two shots on target, a side that has scored the second fewest goals in the league, raises massive alarm bells for the Bees defence, especially coming up against one of the best teams in the league. Villa have scored the sixth most goals in the Premier League (35), and will be looking to expose Brentford in the front third.
Unai Emery’s side has been brilliant at home this season, with an 8-1-2 record at Villa Park - the third best home record in the Premier League. Contrastingly, Brentford have struggled badly away from West London, with a 3-0-8 record in away games this season, ranked 16th in the league. Aston Villa will be desperate to capitalise on this golden opportunity against an out of form Brentford, and all roads point towards a convincing win for the home side.

Tottenham vs Manchester City
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Monday 2nd February, 3:30am AEDT
Tottenham will be looking to end a five game winless run when they take on Manchester City on Monday morning. It’s been another bleak season for Spurs, who have only won two of their last fourteen games, with a record of 2-5-7 in that timespan which has them languishing in fourteenth place on the table. Tottenham are ranked tenth for both goals scored and goals conceded, with their inability to excel in any phase of the game limiting their ability to win games.
On the other hand, Manchester City are the most prolific attack in the league (47 goals scored) and are the second best defensive side in the league (21 goals conceded). City have two of the top three goal scorers in the league with Erling Haaland (1st, 21 goals) and Antoine Semenyo (3rd, 11 goals). They also have two of the top seven assist providers in Rayan Cherki (2nd, 7 assists) and Matheus Nunes (7th, 4 assists). The potency of Manchester City in the attacking half is going to give Spurs plenty of issues in this fixture.
Tottenham are in a horrible run of form and they aren’t showing any signs of getting back to winning ways. Spurs have conceded seven goals in their last three games and haven’t recorded a clean sheet in their last four games. Their defensive credentials don’t stand up against the attacking quality that City possess, and it could be a long day for Spurs.
