GWS vs West Coast Prediction & Betting Tips: AFL 2026 Round 23

Giants' Season Over

GWS headed into Round 22 still alive in the Wildcard race, however a defeat to a Gold Coast side that were coming into the game on the back of 10 consecutive losses leaves the Giants two games behind 10th placed Carlton, with two games remaining. A victory in either of Carlton’s final two games will mathematically rule out the Giants. GWS have now lost six of their last nine games, in what has been a horror end to the season. They’ve been hampered by injury throughout the year, but their inconsistency week to week has been one of the most baffling storylines of season 2026.

Opportunity Missed for the Eagles

West Coast had a big opportunity at home last week to claim a big scalp, with Collingwood heading to Perth with a severely undermanned side. The 19 point loss flattered the Eagles, with Collingwood recording nine more scoring shots than West Coast. The Eagles were beaten in a lot of the key areas of the game, recording -14 contested possessions, -12 Inside 50’s and -11 clearances. The most alarming stat though was the Eagles conceding scores from 50% of the inside 50’s that Collingwood recorded. The Pies haven’t been a strong attacking side in 2026, so these numbers don't make for great reading for West Coast.

Recent Head to Head History

West Coast have had some success against GWS, winning their matchup earlier this year and holding a 2-3 record across their last five games against the Giants. Those two wins were at Optus Stadium, with GWS winning their last three games at Engie Stadium against the Eagles. When GWS beat the Eagles, they beat them big - their last four wins against West Coast have come by margins of 59, 81, 65 and 52 points.

Giants or Eagles? Here’s Our GWS vs West Coast Tip

As we’ve mentioned above, when the Giants beat the Eagles, they do it in convincing fashion, with an average winning margin of 64 points across their last four wins against West Coast. There were a few positives early in the season for the Eagles, however nine straight losses has wiped away any optimism. West Coast’s statistical profile is one of the worst in the league, ranking 17th for disposals, 16th for points scored, 16th for points against, 16th for marks, 15th for inside 50’s and 14 for clearances.

GWS haven’t been able to maintain a consistent brand of football this season, but their groundball game has been excellent and they should be able to expose the Eagles. GWS rank 1st in the AFL for groundball gets, 1st for post clearance groundball gets, 1st  for forward 50 groundball gets, 1st for defensive 50 groundball gets, 3rd for post clearance contested possessions and 3rd for contested possessions. The Giants will bully West Coast around the ball and give their forwards plenty of use against a struggling Eagles backline.

GWS vs West Coast Prop Bet

Harley Reid’s work in the latter parts of the season has been a huge positive in a tough period for the Eagles. Reid’s last three games have seen performances of 29, 34 and 30 disposals. When he faced off against the Giants back in Round 10, Reid was best on ground with 34 disposals and 2 goals. Expect another big game from the former number one draft pick, as he begins to push towards being one of the best midfielders in the competition.
