Panthers vs Roosters Predictions & Tips: NRL Round 24 2026

Wounded Panthers character tested

Ambushed on the road by the Warriors, the Panthers left New Zealand with more than just a 28-12 loss to their name. The injury suffered to Issah Yeo could be catastrophic for their 2026 campaign. Kept scoreless until the 67th minute, the Panthers struggled with just 47% possession and a 75% completion rate. Their opponents continually rattled them with physical defence, and they failed to adjust. Considering who was absent, perhaps the loss wasn’t as strange as it appeared. The fact that they made 8.6m per carry and had 5 line breaks given the circumstances offers promise moving forward.

Class rises when it matters most

Expected to struggle with several key players absent, the Roosters display the mentality and execution you would expect from a team of their standing to score two tries in 15 minutes in a 20-18 come-from-behind victory at home over the Bulldogs. With just a 49% share of possession and a 72% completion rate, they made just 8m per carry and had only 2 line breaks. Momentum was with their opponents, but they took their chances when it mattered. They will need to improve defensively; they allowed 5 line breaks and conceded more PCM’s which are both factors superior teams will punish them for in September.

Stats that matter

- These two sides met in Round 3 where the Panthers were victorious 40-4. This extended the Panthers dominance over the Roosters where they have won 12 of 13 since 2020. The home side has a 59% record at this ground with the Roosters striking at 63%.

- In the past 5 games between these two sides, the average margin of victory is 19.2 points, with 3 games decided by 20 points or more. The average total points is 48.8.

- The Panthers are the superior team on both sides of the ball this season. They score 29ppg in attack and concede just 15ppg defensively. The Roosters are not far behind them; they average 27ppg in attack and allow 19ppg in defence.

A hard road ahead

The strength and depth of the Panthers is set to be further tested as they head into this important fixture. Somehow, with 2 of their starting spine players still absent – Edwards is named in the reserves – they are favourites for this match. Now, with Yeo out, the depth of their forwards will be tested further. The Roosters are fortunate to welcome back Tedesco to their team this week, with a timely rest sure to give him the ability to get his body right for this game. It is puzzling to see how the home side are favourites; momentum is with the visitors and despite a horrendous record against the Panthers, the Rooters appear to have confidence and class going into this encounter.

With the Minor Premiership on the line, we are likely to see the best each team has to offer. As good as the Roosters have been recently, there are still some lingering questions about their ability to execute consistently. In their recent victories, their mistakes have gone unpunished; executing to the standard in which they do allows little opportunity for their opponent to do so. As a thrilling contest awaits, invest accordingly and take the option of either team winning a narrow match. There is every chance the Panthers bounce back from last week but on the same short turnaround as their opponents, they also have a trip home from New Zealand to contend with, which may get the better of them in the end.

Panthers vs Roosters Same Game Multi

Leg 1 = Total points over 41.5 – see above for justification.

Leg 2 = B.Smith to score – he is a man in form with 7 tries from the past 5 matches. Expect the Roosters to attempt to get the ball to him as much as possible too. Having not scored in 2 games against them, the time is right to break his duck against the Panthers also.

Leg 3 = Papali’i to score – speaking of form, Papali’i enjoys playing the Roosters. He has 4 tries from his past 5 games against them. Missing an edge forward, he will sense an opportunity to continue his streak against them.

Scooby's strength is assessing the overall team - what they offer across the field in a match and how the ethos of a club contributes to their success. Momentum also has a major impact on sports, and Scooby likes to explore this, while underpinning his judgement against a solid basis of statistical analysis. When combined with the aforementioned points, it combines for a holistic approach towards betting on rugby league.
