A-League 2025-26: Round 6 Preview & Betting Tips
Wellington Phoenix vs Adelaide United
Sky Stadium, Saturday 29th November, 3:00pm AEDT
Saturday football kicks off across the ditch as Wellington will be looking to end a three winless game slide when they host Adelaide United. The Reds come into this clash on the back of a 4-1 win against the previously unbeaten Melbourne City, to move into third place. The 4-1 victory was built on an attacking masterclass with only 10 men, as Adelaide managed to win the shot count 10-8 and score 4 goals, despite only having 32% possession.
Adelaide have picked up from where they left off last season, sitting 2nd for goals scored, equal third for goals against and fourth for possession. The Reds have knocked off two of the best teams in the competition already in Sydney FC and Melbourne City, and look set to be a genuine contender once again. The same cannot be said for Wellington who are struggling once again, with just one win from their first five games. Sky Stadium certainly hasn’t been a fortress this season, with Phoenix losing two of their three games at home this season.
Wellington have only beaten Adelaide United 12 times in 51 matches between the two sides, with the Red holding a 24-15-12 head to head record, with a goal difference of +40. Adelaide United have won their last two games against Wellington, including a 2-1 victory in Wellington last season. The Reds will continue their strong run of form and hold their place in the top three on the A-League table.

Central Coast Mariners vs Melbourne City
Polytec Stadium, Saturday 29th November, 5:00pm AEDT
A crucial top six clash takes place in Gosford on Saturday evening, as the Central Coast Mariners host Melbourne City. Despite a 2-1-2 start that hasn’t been anything special, Central Coast could be in the top four by the end of the round if results go their way. Melbourne City suffered their first loss of the season last week to drop to fourth place on the table, and will be desperate to keep in touch with the top two.
It was a frustrating outing for Melbourne City last week, Adelaide United were down to ten men for the majority of the game, City dominated the ball with 68% possession, yet still lost 4-1. The big concern for City was they conceded four goals from five shots on target, their defence gave up quality looks on goal in an uncharacteristic performance. Before last week, Melbourne City were the number one ranked defence in the league, conceding only one goal through the first four rounds. They got exposed by a good side, but it’s more likely that is an outlier, rather than a trend.
The Mariners were very poor last week against a winless Western Sydney side, which doesn’t spark much confidence heading into a clash against the reigning champions. Melbourne City will be desperate to bounce back after a poor performance which spells big danger for Central Coast. Melbourne City are also the best team away from home this season, so heading up to Gosford won’t hold any fears. Expect a big bounce back from City.

Western Sydney Wanderers vs Sydney FC
CommBank Stadium, Saturday 29th November, 7:35pm AEDT
The Sky Blues travel to the west to take on the Wanderers, in the first Sydney Derby of the season. It’s been a brilliant start to the season for Sydney FC, who have won four straight to sit at the top of the table. Western Sydney picked up their first win of the season last week, with an upset 3-2 win over the Mariners. The Wanderers made the most of some sloppy defending by the Mariners, converting two penalties which turned out to be the difference.
It’s no surprise to see Sydney FC’s statistical profile being as strong as what it is. The Sky Blues are the number one ranked attacking team in the league having scored 12 goals from four games, and are also the equal best defensive side in the league, having only conceded 3 goals. Sydney FC’s goal difference is +9, comfortably the best in the league. The Sky Blues have two of the top three goal scorers in the league with Joe Lolley (4 goals) and Al Hassan Toure. Lolley also leads the league in assists (2) in what has been a stellar start to the season for the Englishman.
The Sky Blues have had the better of their arch rivals since the Wanderers joined the comp, with a 19-10-11 record in the Sydney Derby. The Wanderers have only scored 5 goals this season (ranked 9th), with 3 of those goals coming in their last game, with two of those three goals being penalties. Western Sydney simply don’t have the attacking quality to match Sydney FC. The league leaders have dominated Western Sydney of late, winning five of their last seven games in the Sydney Derby. Sydney FC’s balance will be far too much for an ordinary Wanderers side to handle, who have just one win from five games.
