Ascot Racing Tips – Saturday, April 15th
Race 1
(3) RUMOUR SAYS - sound return two weeks ago over 1000m behind LENIENCY when she was last turning for home and forced widest down the straight. Closed off nicely even though she wanted to lay in (winkers go on first time today). Meets POT SHOT 1.5kgs better at the weights out of that race and she’ll take improvement from the run. Second-up last prep she was awfully unlucky behind AMELIA’S JEWEL in the Listed Belgravia Stakes (elite form lines). Has run well behind SNOWDOME (should’ve beaten him in the Belgravia) which ties in with COSMOPOLITAN GIRL who ran second behind him last week. Will need a plan from the gate but 3WWC from the chute is OK. Go well.
Race 3
(3) MICHELADA – second-up today after winning nicely on her return from a break beating MISS FIELD and SUPPORTIVE who she meets again today. Draws the pole for Watson and maps to be the sole leader. Hasn’t won second-up previously, but she ran really well last prep when she went back to 1000m and took the cut away up the inside (she looked to be run off her legs a bit but went through the line nicely). BRAVE VENTURE has trialled up OK and goes well first-up, but I’m not sure where he gets to from the gate. Same goes for LEGACY OF TARA. I think MICHELADA can dictate from the front. Hard to run down.

Race 7
(9) WILEY GIRL ($9.00 / $2.40) – she’s the best roughie / value bet of the day! The stablemate LIVE TO TELL is clearly the horse to beat after her slashing finale LS in the Gimcrack, but she doesn’t offer any value at the odds-on quote. I think WILEY GIRL maps to get a beautiful run from gate 5 and Willy Pike jumps on board. She ran well first up over 1000m behind KRYSANOVA (nice gap to third) before getting to 1200m LS where she won eased down (albeit with the run of the race). She looks a nice filly and if she gets a similar run in transit (which I think she will) then she is a great chance to at least run the place, if not win. Great edition of the Karrakatta!
Wiley Girl - Each Way

Race 8
Keen to see if Amelia’s Jewel can overcome the gate – she’ll likely get back and need to come from well back to win, but she has the class and TOF required to do so – Kementari ($26) and Resortman ($41) are way over the odds.

I think Comfort Me can win and is over the odds, but banking on ACROMANTULA getting taken on / there being a genuine speed up front to make him vulnerable at the end of 1200m.

(9) STARRING KNIGHT – best value bet of the day! We were with him last week but by the time he ran, barrier one was no advantage, and the inside wasn’t the best going. Couple that with the lack of room he had after turning for home and it was a complete forgive job. The Pearce stable puts him in on the quick back-up (which has worked before), he draws gate 4, and he gets a 2.5kg weight swing on LS. He can hit back hard.
