A potential NRL Round 27 spoon bowl greets us on Sunday afternoon, as the Titans head to the Eighth Wonder, Leichhardt Oval, to take on the Tigers. With the Titans (17th) and Tigers (14th) currently locked in a five-way battle for the Wooden Spoon, and set to meet again in round 27, this game takes on huge ramifications. Let’s dig in.
Tigers vs Titans Prediction & Tips: 2025 NRL Round 20
Tigers Desperate to Avoid Fourth Straight Spoon
The Tigers got the monkey off their backs in round 18, getting by the Roosters 30-28 to snap a six-game losing streak. However, the high didn’t last long, as they were hammered in New Zealand last week by the Warriors, going down 34-14. The Tigers were dominated through the middle, with the Warriors running for 400 metres more, breaking the line 10 times to 3, and running in 6 tries to 3 for the easy victory. Adam Doueihi was the one bright spot for the Tigers, scoring two tries, breaking the line twice, busting 7 tackles and setting up another try in a terrific display by the side’s Mr Fix It. This week, Doueihi has been named in the 13 jersey, and it will be interesting to see if he plays in that role during the game.
Titans Heading for First Spoon Since 2019
The Titans have lost three straight and come into round 20 as the clear last placed team, two points behind the Rabbitohs and two wins behind every other team except the Eels. A loss here won’t guarantee them their first wooden spoon since 2019, but it will go a long way to solidifying it. Last week, the Titans took on the Broncos at home, and were quickly overawed by their big brother’s, as the Broncos led 14-2 at the half, and 20-2 just five minutes into the second half. The Titans fought back, with two tries within the space of 10 minutes from Jojo Fifita to get the deficit to 6, however a try to Billy Walters at the hour mark put the Broncos two converted tries ahead, and they were never in danger again, eventually prevailing 26-14. Jaimin Jolliffe got through a mountain if work in the middle, making 41 tackles and running for 145 metres, while Tino Fa’asuamaleaui looked close to back to full fitness, as he ran for 131 metres and popped 5 offloads in his best game for a month at least. The Titans missed a whopping 46 tackles, made 14 errors and gave away 5 six again’s, in a poor display of discipline.
Tigers vs Titans Recent History
The Titans have been dominant against the Tigers since 2020, winning five of the six matchups. However, it was the Tigers who won the last clash, defeating the Titans 18-10 at Leichhardt Oval in round 15 of last season. The Titans closed 1.5-point road favourites, with a massive total of 51.5 that never stood a chance of being toppled. Keano Kini had the Tigers seeing ghosts, as he ran for 321 metres, had three line breaks, three line break assists, one try assist, and 8 tackle breaks, but it wasn’t enough, as Stefano Utoikamanu led the Tigers to the win running for 206 metres, making 31 tackles with zero misses, popping three offloads and busting 7 tackles.
Points Galore Expected at Leichhardt
The Tigers were listed as 4.5-point favourites on the look ahead line, re-opening at the same number on Monday. That number hasn’t moved all week, with punters clearly not being able to put trust in either side in this one. I have this number as spot on, however would lean towards the Titans to cover. The Tigers are a decent 2-3 covering the spread as favourites this season, however that still doesn’t fill me with confidence. I can’t trust either of these teams though and won’t be betting on the spread in this one.
Looking towards the total, and it opened 47.5 and has been bet up to 48.5. I completely agree with the move and have a fair total set at 51.5. Both teams are in the bottom four in points per game, and realistically are there for most defensive stats. Neither team has been dominant in overs or unders, however the Titans have gone over the total in 9 of their 16 games this season. With both teams having very little left to play for this season, defensive intensity is likely to drop for both sides, and I can see this turning into a bit of a track meet. With trust low for both of these teams, it won’t be a big bet, but I like the over here on Sunday afternoon.

Our Best Prop Bet: Brimson 1+ Try
Brimson has been involved in everything since his return to fullback and coming up against a poor Tigers team here I fully expect the Titans’ fullback to get in on the try scoring action again.
