Friday Night Football at Sharks Stadium continues NRL Round 20 with a genuine top four contest, as Cronulla host Newcastle in a matchup featuring two of the most dangerous attacking teams in the competition. The Sharks have surged into fourth after winning six of their past seven games, while the Knights remain firmly in the finals race despite narrowly falling short against South Sydney last weekend. Both teams are capable of contributing to a high total, but the cleanest betting angle sits with Cronulla’s team points.
The Sharks are averaging 35 points per game at Sharks Stadium this season, and their attack could hardly be entering this match in better form after producing 66 points against the Dolphins. The full game spread looks close enough to my ratings, and while there is some appeal in the match total over, the Sharks team total over 24.5 isolates the strongest attacking profile in the contest.
Cronulla welcome Briton Nikora back after his head knock in Origin, while Addin Fonua-Blake returns to the starting side. Newcastle regains Bradman Best, although Greg Marzhew must overcome a corked glute and Cody Hopwood is out with a calf issue.

Sharks vs Knights Prediction & Tips: 2026 NRL Round 20
Sharks Attack Hits Frightening Peak
Cronulla’s 66-0 demolition of the Dolphins was one of the most ruthless performances of the 2026 season and an emphatic demonstration of the Sharks’ attacking ceiling. Craig Fitzgibbon’s side ran in 11 tries, held the Dolphins scoreless for the first time in their history and moved into the top four on the back of a sixth win from seven matches. Nicho Hynes finished with a club record 30 points through two tries and 11 conversions, while Braydon Trindall orchestrated three tries and produced two try saving defensive plays.
The halves partnership is now operating with genuine fluency. Hynes no longer appears burdened with creating every attacking opportunity, while Trindall’s willingness to dig into the defensive line gives Cronulla another genuine organising and running threat. Blayke Brailey has also been in outstanding form around the ruck, consistently identifying tired markers and giving his forwards early ball before defensive lines can reset.
Cronulla’s back five provide enormous value through yardage. William Kennedy links effectively around the middle, while Sione Katoa, Jesse Ramien, KL Iro and Ronaldo Mulitalo can all generate momentum from poor field position. That platform allows Addin Fonua-Blake, Thomas Hazelton and Cameron McInnes to attack retreating defenders rather than constantly taking static carries.
The 66-point result will not be repeated every week, but it was not entirely built on fluke or Dolphins errors. Cronulla’s attacking systems have been trending upward for more than a month, and they have now scored 468 points through 16 games. They return to a venue where their attacking output has been particularly strong, and I expect that to continue this week.
Knights Fall Short After Brave Comeback
Newcastle’s 26-24 loss to South Sydney ended their winning run, but there was still plenty to like about the way the Knights fought back after falling into a difficult position. Kalyn Ponga spearheaded the recovery and repeatedly threatened through the middle, but Newcastle could not quite complete what would have been a memorable late escape. It was their first defeat since Round 14 and left them level with Cronulla on 26 competition points.
The return of Bradman Best is a major boost. Best provides powerful yardage from the backfield and gives Ponga and Dylan Brown a genuine strike option on the left edge. His matchup against Jesse Ramien should be one of the most physical individual contests of the round. Fletcher Sharpe moves back to five-eighth, with Sandon Smith returning to the bench, restoring the spine Newcastle used throughout much of its successful mid-season run.
The concern for Newcastle is the defensive profile. The Knights have conceded 402 points across 17 games, comfortably more than the other teams currently occupying the top five. Their attack has regularly compensated, but that is a dangerous way to approach Cronulla at Sharks Stadium. Newcastle cannot afford to concede cheap yardage, lose the ruck, or allow Hynes and Trindall repeated attacking sets.
Greg Marzhew has been named despite leaving last week’s game with a corked glute, while Tyson Frizell shifts to prop because Hopwood is unavailable. That reshuffle asks plenty of a pack facing Fonua-Blake, Hazelton, Nikora, Wilton and McInnes. Newcastle has the attacking class to trouble Cronulla, but they must prevent the game becoming a prolonged exchange of good ball sets.
Sharks vs Knights Recent History
Cronulla have controlled this rivalry recently, winning six of the past seven meetings. The most recent clash came in Round 26 last season, when the Sharks scored a convincing 40-16 victory at home after leading 18-10 at halftime. Newcastle have not won at Sharks Stadium since 2014, while Nicho Hynes has won all seven of his career matches against the Knights.
Recent results:
• 2025 Round 26: Sharks def Knights 40-16
• 2025 Round 7: Sharks def Knights 34-14
• 2024 Round 24: Sharks def Knights 19-18
• 2023 Round 26: Knights def Sharks 32-6
• 2023 Round 12: Sharks def Knights 26-6
The recent dominance and Newcastle’s long drought at the venue both support Cronulla’s attacking outlook, even if the Knights remain dangerous enough to avoid laying a large spread.
Sharks Team Total the Cleaner Betting Play
This is a matchup where I expect points, but I prefer isolating Cronulla rather than relying on Newcastle to make the full game total cash. The Sharks are averaging 35 points per game at Sharks Stadium this season, their spine is healthy, and their attack is coming off its most complete performance of the year. Reaching 25 points is a significantly easier task than asking them to cover a line against a Newcastle team capable of scoring quickly.
The matchup through the middle strongly favours the Sharks. Fonua-Blake returns to the starting side after coming from the bench last week, while Nikora is fresh after his post-Origin rest. If those two generate early momentum, Brailey should be able to create speed around the ruck and give Hynes and Trindall repeated chances against Newcastle’s edges.
Newcastle’s best attacking players also indirectly help the bet. The Knights are unlikely to play conservatively for 80 minutes, particularly with Ponga, Brown, Sharpe, Best, Gagai and Dominic Young available. Their willingness to attack can create a faster game, more possessions, and broken-field opportunities for Cronulla. Even if Newcastle score in the low-to-mid 20s, that game script should push the Sharks comfortably toward their team total.
There is always some risk after a 66-point performance that the market and public overrate the favourite. That is why I am not particularly interested in forcing the spread. Cronulla do not need another historic win for this bet to cash; a professional 28-20 or 30-24 victory is more than enough.
The Sharks have scored with consistency at home, Newcastle’s defensive record is the weakest among the top five teams, and Cronulla now field almost their complete attacking unit. The full game over has some appeal, but the team total gives us the stronger statistical and tactical edge.

Sharks vs Knights Player Prop Bet
Ronaldo had three tries in the last meeting between these two teams, and despite the Knights’ right edge defence improving markedly this season, I’ll take Mulitalo to score here again.
R Mulitalo (1+ try)

Sharks vs Knights Same Game Multi
Leg 1: Sharks (team total) over 26.5 – The 24.5 isn’t available for the SGM, but I’ll still add it here at over 26.5.
Leg 2 R Mulitalo (1+ try) – See above best prop bet.
Leg 3: D Young (1+ try) – The Sharks’ left edge defensively is the weaker edge, and with Marzhew potentially out, the Knights are likely to target Young.
