August 27th 2026, 1:19pm, By: Scooby

NRL Cowboys vs Tigers Tips

The concluding game on NRL Super Saturday heads to Townsville this week with the Cowboys hosting the Tigers. This is anything but a meaningless fixture as it promises to deliver an exciting rugby league contest. The Cowboys need a win in this game to keep their Finals hopes alive while the Tigers will want to put together a consecutive victory in a tough road trip.

Scooby is back with his preview and NRL tips for the Cowboys vs Tigers!

Cowboys vs Tigers Prediction & Tips: 2026 NRL Round 26

Another week of pain

The Cowboys had the week off last week to lament their poor 32-30 loss on the road to the Eels in Round 24. As heavy favourites, the Cowboys failed to shut their opponents out of the match and kept the Finals hopes of teams around them alive. With 48% possession and an 84% completion rate, they ran for 9.5m per carry, made 622 PCM’s, but were let down defensively. They conceded 7 line breaks and missed 33 tackles, reflecting a lack of quality attitude which is needed for teams which have hopes of progressing far into the Finals series.

The upset of the year

A spirited 25-24 performance which caused the upset of the year for the Tigers over the Roosters provides hopes that this team is heading in the right direction. Entitled to collapse against a superior team, the Tigers squad did the opposite. They were competitive and played with poise (50% possession & 82% completion rate), overcoming plenty of setbacks over 80 minutes. Making 8.3m per carry, they created only 4 line breaks (Roosters 9) and missed 43 tackles. Yet, this mattered little as they sealed the victory with a last-gasp field goal to keep the hopes of an improved 2027 alive (for now).

Stats that matter

- The Tigers were victorious 44-16 against the Cowboys, making it their only victory in the past 5 games against the Cowboys. They also struggle on the road against this opponent, winning just 20% of matches. The Cowboys have a 54% strike rate at home.

- Despite only 2 of the past 5 games being decided by 6 points or less, the average margin of victory is still 14 points. They’re extremely high scoring contests too, with the average total sitting at 64 points.

- The Cowboys are far superior on both sides of the ball in 2026. They average 23ppg in attack but concede 26ppg defensively. While that is poor, it is still better than the Tigers, who score just 19ppg and allow 28ppg.

Fatigue to play a large role

The positive result which the Tigers enjoyed last week must be quickly forgotten as they prepare for this clash. Facing a team that is coming off a Bye, they will be fresh in tough conditions for the visitors. The lack of preparation time for the Tigers may cause them issues. The home team receives a huge boost with both Dearden and Nanai returning to their team. Their presence on the field offers the Cowboys stability and precision in their attack. The Tigers will struggle in the middle to handle the Cowboys speed and power, further impacted by the omission of Twal. Despite recording a victory over them already this season, the fortunes of each team ahead of this game are vastly different from earlier in the year. The Cowboys are prone to poor performances but with their season on the line, with key players returning, and playing at home, we should see a dominant display that solidifies their position in the Top 8 ahead of the concluding week of the regular season. As for a margin, expect the home team to make a statement; this will be a tight contest to begin with the Tigers riding high on the emotion from last week but in the end, the home team should pull away from them comfortably.

Cowboys vs Tigers Same Game Multi

Leg 1 = Totals points over 52.5 – see above for justification.

Leg 2 = Purdue to score – he has been in great form when playing the Tigers, with a try in each of his 3 matches against them. Purdue is also a player in form, with 2 tries from his past 2 NRL matches.

Leg 3 = Nanai to score – forget the fact that he is returning from injury and hasn’t scored in his past 2 NRL games, the circumstances are right for Nanai. He has scored 5 tries in his past 5 games against the Tigers and will want his confidence to return quickly by adding to this total.

Scooby's strength is assessing the overall team - what they offer across the field in a match and how the ethos of a club contributes to their success. Momentum also has a major impact on sports, and Scooby likes to explore this, while underpinning his judgement against a solid basis of statistical analysis. When combined with the aforementioned points, it combines for a holistic approach towards betting on rugby league.

Other sports he enjoys include Cricket, Horse Racing and NFL. There is a reason why Scooby ‘clicked’ with BYB from Day 1 - he loves his sport as much as we do.
