Round 10 of the AFL season presents us with three games this Saturday with a couple of different avenues to attack from a fantasy perspective.
First up, the Kangaroos are still chasing that big scalp as they are a live chance against the Crows in Adelaide. The twilight game sees us return to the MCG to see the Demons take on the Hawks, while the final game of the day is across the road at Marvel Stadium where the Blues will be led by a new coach as they battle the Bulldogs.

AFL Daily Fantasy Lineup Tips: Round 10 Saturday
AFL Fantasy Round 10 Saturday: Where to Attack?
The Crows are warm favourites against the Roos but that doesn’t mean they have an advantage in the fantasy stakes. The Roos were quite dominant statistically last week, despite the loss against the Swans. The Roos are in the top three stingiest in the league across a number of positions on the ground including inside mids, wings, defenders and the designated kicker. The Crows also don’t have any major leaks so tread carefully in this one.
Meanwhile the Hawks are the toughest team in the league to score against for fantasy as they are in the top three in every position on the ground, with the exception of the midfield. By contrast, we can certainly attack Melbourne who have the opposite problem. They give away plenty of easy points in the back half, as they are in the top three leakiest teams in the league to wingers, general defenders and the designated kicker. They also concede big points to general forwards. Look for the Hawks defenders to control the ball and rack up some big points.
The Blues and the Dogs present a couple of interesting options. However it’s worth noting that Josh Fraser will be in the chair as coach of the Blues this week, replacing Michael Voss who resigned midweek. That could mean some new strategies or some new roles to watch out for. The main area of weakness from a fantasy perspective has been in the ruck where they’ve given away a staggering 18 points above league average of the last ten games. Marc Pittonet has been injured for large chunks of that period, while the last few weeks he’s been well short of his best. However they come up against the Dogs who will be missing number one ruck Tim English, so it remains to be seen if their secondary rucks can take advantage of this match up.
Carlton also gives up the league worst to the opposition wings and outside defensive runners, which should suit some of the Bulldogs running players. The Dogs themselves give up plenty of points in their defensive half as they are easily the league worst to opposition general defenders, while they are also above average in points conceded to designated kickers and wings.
Game script: Hawks defenders/forwards, Bulldogs ruck, Bulldogs wings/outside defenders, Blues defenders
AFL Fantasy Round 10 Saturday: Our Value Fantasy Picks
Henry Hustwaite ($6,000) comes into the Hawks side for the first time this season after some strong and consistent VFL form. Has averaged 30 disposals and almost 100 fantasy points per game in the VFL this season, and while he does tend to handball more than he kicks, he can also lay a tackle. With Conor Nash going out of the side there should be some midfield minutes for Hustwaite to hit value against a leaky Melbourne side and give us some salary relief.
Louis Emmett ($7,220) gets another opportunity in the ruck this week with Tim English ruled out of the side with concussion. Emmett will assume the ruck responsibilities for the Bulldogs, and doesn’t have a whole lot of support there with Rory Lobb ($7,060) badly needed in the backline, but likely the chop out option. Emmett had a couple of 60-point scores earlier in the season when English was missing and while he wasn’t exactly getting his hand on too many hitouts, he was chipping in with a few marks and tackles to get his fantasy scoring going. According to the season stats, the match against the Blues is a favourable one for ruckmen. I do expect Marc Pittonet to be improved in this one, but Emmett should still have every chance to hit value.
AFL Fantasy Round 10 Saturday: Our Mid-Priced Fantasy Picks
Harry McKay ($11,470) might be a cheeky option this week if you are looking for a point of difference in the ruck position as McKay has been given dual roles. He’s extremely inconsistent so it’s definitely a tournament play, but if it comes off, he can go large. Last week he scored 111 against the Lions and was excellent with 21 disposals, 10 marks and 3 goals. Interestingly, he only had 2 hitouts so don’t rely on him for too many hitouts if he jumps into the ruck, but getting him up and around the ground is good for him to find some extra touches anyway. The Bulldogs are horrendous against tall forwards and they don’t have a ruckman, so either scenario is a good match up for McKay.
Josh Battle ($12,060) is one of a number of Hawks defenders that you could roster on this slate at around the same price point. Karl Amon ($13,390), Jarman Impey ($13,080) and James Sicily ($12,850) are all in play and you can correlate them together against a Melbourne team that concedes huge points to opposition defenders. We’ll roll with Battle as our first pick. He’s the cheapest of the quartet and his recent form has been impeccable with a 106 last week and a 3-game average of 95. Should be able to link up for plenty of cheap +3’s and rack up the points.
Connor Budarick ($11,760) is a good option for the Bulldogs if you want to target the Blues giving up points to opposition defenders. Similar to the Hawks, you can correlate the likes of Bailey Dale ($14,860) and Bailey Williams ($12,550) with Budarick to stack the Dogs defenders together. Budarick returned to the side last week after a month on the sidelines and amassed a healthy score of 114 against the Power. Has the potential to ton up again here.
AFL Fantasy Round 10 Saturday: Our Premium Fantasy Picks
Ed Richards ($15,040) could be primed to cash in against the Blues in a very favourable match up. While Marcus Bontempelli ($17,470) is the obvious choice, there’s no doubt he’s been playing sore, and at a saving of over $2,400, I’m happy to side with Richards who is very capable of going big. Richards has two 130+ scores this season and is coming off a nice run of form with 103 and 105 in his last two matches. Should be part of your Bulldogs stacks.
Tristan Xerri ($16,670) is one on this slate who can go massive, and we’re getting him at a reasonable price after a poor score of 84 last week in a tough match up with Brodie Grundy. I say “reasonable” price as he’s coming off recent $18k price tags, so $16k-ish seems affordable for someone capable of going 150+. Has a season average of 110.5 and racks up points in everything he does - disposals, marks, tackles or hitouts. He’s a fantasy beast so let’s have him on our side this week.
