GWS vs St Kilda Preview & Tips: 2026 AFL Round 2

March 20th 2026, 4:24pm, By: Andy Rosos

GWS vs St Kilda Prediction & Betting Tips

AFL Round 2 delivers an intriguing matchup at ENGIE Stadium as the GWS Giants host St Kilda in a contest that shapes as far closer than the ladder might suggest. The Giants have already shown both sides of their game across the opening fortnight, while the Saints remain winless but competitive, falling short in two tight contests.

We bring you our full preview and expert tips for the Crows vs Bulldogs below. And if you’re keen to back in our tips, consider doing so at Bet365 - one of the biggest and best sportsbooks in the world!

GWS vs St Kilda Prediction & Betting Tips: AFL 2026 Round 1

Home Ground Edge for the Giants

GWS have had a mixed start to the season, opening with an impressive 27-point win over Hawthorn before being completely overrun by the Western Bulldogs in an 81-point loss. That defeat exposed a key weakness, their vulnerability at stoppages. The Bulldogs dominated the clearance battle 45–26, underlining how heavily the Giants rely on their transition game rather than contested dominance.

Despite the loss, there were still positives. Lachie Ash (31 disposals), Finn Callaghan (27) and Clayton Oliver (26) all found plenty of the ball, while Toby Greene remained active across half-forward. The Giants are at their best when they can generate run from the back half, with Lachie Whitfield a key distributor, particularly against St Kilda, where he has recorded 30+ disposals in four of his past five matchups. However, with Tom Green, Josh Kelly and Sam Taylor still sidelined, GWS may again struggle if the contest becomes a stoppage-heavy battle.

Saints Knocking on the Door

St Kilda’s 0–2 record doesn’t fully reflect their performances to start the season. The Saints have been highly competitive in losses to Collingwood and Melbourne, going down by just 12 and 13 points respectively. Their ability to generate forward entries and control patches of play has been encouraging, particularly through their midfield and half-back group.

Jack Sinclair and Marcus Windhager have both been prolific, consistently finding the ball and driving territory, while the emergence of Max Hall inside 50 has added a genuine scoring threat. Hall has kicked five goals across the opening two rounds, including a standout four-goal performance last week, and continues to benefit from a forward-focused role under Ross Lyon. If the Saints can control stoppages and limit GWS’ ability to launch from defence, they are more than capable of pushing the Giants all the way.

Giants vs Saints? Here’s Our Best Bet

This matchup has a history of producing tight contests, and there’s little to suggest this will be any different. While GWS have won the past four meetings, St Kilda have taken five of the last nine clashes between the sides, and even in their losses, the margins have been narrow, averaging just 16 points across those defeats.

Both teams have also been involved in close games to start the season, with St Kilda’s two losses coming by a combined 25 points. Given the Saints’ competitiveness, improving midfield cohesion and GWS’ ongoing issues around stoppages, this shapes as a genuine grind. The Giants’ home-ground advantage keeps them slight favourites, but the Saints should remain right in the contest throughout.

GWS vs St Kilda Prop Bet

Max Hall has quickly emerged as one of St Kilda’s most dangerous forward options and comes into this game in strong form after kicking four goals last week. Importantly, his role under Ross Lyon has remained predominantly forward, with limited midfield time, allowing him to stay close to goal and maximise his scoring opportunities. Against a GWS defence that has shown vulnerability under pressure, Hall should again see plenty of looks inside 50. If the Saints can generate consistent supply, 2+ goals for Hall looks a very achievable outcome.

GWS vs St Kilda Same Game Multi

Darcy Wilson 16+ Disposals | Finn Callaghan 26+ Disposals | Max Gruzewski 2+ Goals

This multi is built around players with strong recent form and clearly defined roles. Darcy Wilson continues to find the ball consistently, recording 23, 21 and 18 disposals in his last three games, thriving off handball receives and outside run. Finn Callaghan has started the season in excellent touch with 26 and 27 disposals, and also has a strong record against the Saints with 26 and 24 in two matchups last year. Up forward, Max Gruzewski presents as a strong bounce-back candidate. While he went goalless last week, he kicked 3, 3 and 2 goals in his previous three games and remains a key scoring target. In what should be a competitive, high-pressure contest, this combination of Wilson 16+, Callaghan 26+ and Gruzewski 2+ goals stacks up well.
