Midweek racing will be held at Canterbury with seven races this Wednesday afternoon, the first commencing at 12:50pm AEST. No features on the program as you would expect from a Wednesday meeting, but plenty of quality horses looking to progress to Saturday grade, and the track is currently rated as a Soft 7 with no rain predicted. The rail is out three metres for the entire circuit.

Canterbury Racing Tips: Wednesday, June 18th 2025
Race 3: MAURICE AT ARROWFIELD PLATE (1550 METRES) – 2:00pm AEST
(2) Righteous Legend has had five career starts for three minor placings and the three-year-old gelding looks close to breaking the maiden. Prepared by Lee and Cherie Curtis, the son of Justify wasn’t a bad effort when fifth, beaten 2.9 lengths by Homeric. He does step out to 1550m for the first time, but I don’t see that being an issue, as he was placed over 1400m at Newcastle last year. Nash Rawiller jumping aboard looks good too.
(3) Sleuth finished sixth at his return to racing and the 1300m looked a bit short for him. Jumping straight up to 1550m is a definite tick and he comes out of the Righteous Legend race, finishing a half-length behind that runner. Expecting him to run a good race.
(1) Dwayne is one of three Chris Waller-trained runners in the race, and he should be right on the speed from barrier three. Placed in three from five in his career to date, the son of So You Think was a complete forgive run when beaten 36 lengths last time out. His best form suggests he has each-way claims in the event.

Race 5: OLE KIRK @ VINERY STUD HANDICAP (1900 METRES) – 3:10pm AEST
(3) Guzumped returned to the races over 1500m in a Benchmark 78 contest, finishing eighth when beaten 3.64 lengths. That was at Rosehill Gardens on a Saturday so the drop back to a midweek contest should help. Guzumped has won twice from three attempts when racing second up from a spell and has been placed over the distance. The 61kg is a cause for concern, however, he has been placed with 60kg on his back over 1600m on a Heavy 9 surface.
(5) Fioprospero is deep into his preparation with this being his sixth run for the campaign. He has saluted twice so far in the prep, but this is a freshen up as he hasn’t raced in more than a month. A 1200m trial will have topped him off nicely and this distance range is perfect for the Matthew Smith-trained gelding. Should run a strong race.
(2) Fleet Commander represents the powerful Bjorn Baker stable and comes off a first-up fifth placing in a Benchmark 72. He has been placed (one victory) in all three runs at the distance, so will relish the step up in trip with a run under the belt.
(3) Guzumped
$7.60 (1 unit)
Race 7: TRAFFIC WARDEN @ DARLEY HANDICAP (1550 METRES) – 4:20pm AEST
(8) Nana’s Wish is a Victorian mare for trainer Ciaron Maher, coming off a pair of fourth-placed efforts at Sale and Cranbourne. She has won on Good, Soft and Heavy tracks, so won’t be concerned by the track condition. Apprentice jockey Anna Roper will press forward from the wider gate, hoping to land a spot in the top four. Expecting her to run well.
(1) No Drama was a winner over course and distance two starts ago when leading throughout to score by 1.3 lengths. You can put the pen through last start as it is a complete forgive run. No Drama has won twice from two tries at the track and should run well if he can handle the 62kg topweight.
(14) Willie Oppa requires another scratching to gain a start in the race but will have strong each-way claims if he gets the run. The 55kg and Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle look perfect, and the three-year-old drops back from 2000m to the 1550m, which is also a positive move from Waller.
(8) Nana’s Wish
$4.50 (1.5 units)
