Wednesday horse racing is held in almost all states this week. We are targeting Canterbury Park in NSW, Sandown-Lakeside in Victoria, and Belmont in WA. With excellent midweek thoroughbred action on display, we have five best bets. Good luck to everyone following along!
Canterbury Park Racing Tips: Wednesday, July 8th 2026
Race 2: Headwater @ Vinery Stud Handicap 1200m – 1:25pm AEST
(4) Sanctum was runner up on debut behind stablemate Omolong who has since won at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday. That debut run by Sanctum was terrific and from the good gate, apprentice hoop Siena Grima should be able to land a favourable position in running. Carrying the 55kg once again is important and the young colt should prove hard to beat.
(8) Helldeeva notched her first win last time out when sprinting from the tail of the field to swoop past them in the home straight. She has trialled since that victory and enters the race full of confidence. She will likely settle in the second half of the field again.

Sandown-Lakeside Racing Tips: Wednesday, July 8th 2026
Race 1: Sportsbet BlackBook Plate 1200m – 12:25pm AEST
(2) Blue Shield continues to knock on the door and hopefully after this race, he breaks it down to win his maiden. Three straight runner-up performances must be a little frustrating for trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr, but the key change here is that Craig Williams has picked up the ride. With the champion jockey in the saddle, that experience should help guide the gelding to victory. He looks the leader, so it should be catch me if you can.
(11) Here’s Matilda is a debutant from the powerful Ciaron Maher barn. Her most recent jump out looked nice as she let down strongly to just get up on the line. Whatever she does here, she will only get better going forward.

Race 2: MRC Membership Made Of Moments Handicap 2125m – 1:00pm AEST
(6) Timeonlees brings strong country form into town and she will be towards the front of the field, whether she can lead or not remains to be seen. She handled the step up to 2100m brilliantly at Echuca, running away with a six-length romp. A wet track will not bother her and she races well on Soft and Heavy surfaces. With a light weight on her back, she should handle the step up in grade and run a big race.
(2) Harsh is racing in very good form, winning two runs back. She hasn’t missed a placing in her last five starts, gets Craig Williams here, and this distance range is her go. She will handle the track with ease and Wuddzz, who beat her last start, has since run fourth at Flemington in the Banjo Paterson Series Final.

Race 7: Evergreen Turf Handicap 1200m – 3:55pm AEST
(1) Tennessee Bound is unbeaten from four starts after resuming with a dominant win at Caulfield-Heath. She looks Saturday bound after this and hopefully can get the job done again. Jabez Johnstone takes the ride again and the 3kg claim here is crucial so that the mare carries 59kg rather than 62. She draws perfectly in gate three and can either lead or trail. From either spot, she will be hard to hold out.
(5) Extreme Hardys is first-up from a spell with two wins from three starts. She has a new trainer and is racing for the first time since 2024. Three jump outs will help but nothing beats race experience. This talented mare can improve with a run under the belt.

Belmont Racing Tips: Wednesday, July 8th 2026
Race 1: MC Polytrack Maiden 1200m – 12:29pm (2:29pm AEST)
(2) Force Field was a very good debut effort when second. He beat home Gentle Touch although that horse was the more impressive run on the day. Gate 12 of 13 is some concern, which is why there is $7 on offer. I am not entirely sure where the gelding will map from that tough draw but the debut effort suggests he has good each-way claims in the race still.
(12) Gentle Touch was eye-catching to say the least and now Willie Pike has jumped aboard. That combination of race day experience and the best jockey in WA should see the filly hard to beat but she does bump into Force Field again and debutant Rifleman.
