Brisbane vs Port Adelaide Prediction & Betting Tips: AFL 2026 Round 20

Hitting Their Stride

Like they have in their past two seasons, the Lions were being written off when they were 6-6 after round 12, however six wins on the bounce has Brisbane in fourth place and once again sitting as a genuine premiership contender. The Lions were in second gear for most of the game against West Coast last week, but did enough when it mattered to come out on top in a 24 point win. Brisbane’s attacking game is in remarkable form, being the highest scoring team in the competition and ranking in the top four for scores from stoppage, scores from turnover, scores from defensive half, scores from forward half and scores from centre bounce. While their defence isn’t performing as well as it has in previous seasons, they have the best attacking profile of any team in the competition.

Admirable Once Again

Expectations were incredibly low coming into this season for Port Adelaide, however Josh Carr has done an admirable job in his first season as coach. Sitting in 15th place with a 6-12 record doesn’t sound great, however they have suffered five losses by less than a goal and only have lost one game by more than 35 points. Port Adelaide’s competitiveness this season has come on the back of their defence, which is the third best in the AFL, conceding just 80 points per game. Despite not having a strong midfield, their pressure around the ball has done a great job denying inside 50’s, conceding the second fewest inside 50’s in the AFL. Their offensive game needs to improve a lot, but the Power can certainly take a lot out of this season.

Recent Head to Head History

Despite both teams being amongst the top four a lot since 2019, this matchup has been dominated by Brisbane across that time span. Brisbane have won eight of their last nine games against Port Adelaide, with an average winning margin of 39 points across those eight wins. The Gabba hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for the Power, who haven’t won at the venue since 2017.

Lions or Power? Here’s our Brisbane vs Port Adelaide Tip

Port Adelaide have been admirable this season, however this shapes up as what could be a breaking point for the Power. Coming up against a red hot Brisbane side that has kicked scores of 105, 115, 126, 123, 149 and 93 across their last six games is going to be an incredibly difficult proposition. The Lions rank first for clearances and third for inside 50’s, so it’s going to be tough for Port to deny entries which has been a strength for them.

Brisbane have put up huge scores from stoppage over the last three weeks, scoring 72, 67 and 64 points from stoppage. If Port get blown away at the clearance battle, especially from centre clearances on a small ground, it’s going to be tough for them to keep this game close. Expect the Lions to continue their strong form and great record against Port Adelaide.

Brisbane vs Port Adelaide Prop Bet

Brisbane’s six game winning streak has had a lot to do with Will Ashcroft’s excellent run of form. The back to back Norm Smith medal winner has had five consecutive games with over 30 disposals, with four of those five games seeing him record 32+ disposals. Coming up against a midfield that is shallow given the absences of Zak Butters and Connor Rozee, Ashcroft is set for another big game.
