PGA Tour Charles Schwab Challenge Betting Tips
Colonial Country Club, Thursday 22nd - Sunday 25th May
The Charles Schwab Challenge routinely attracts a blend of top-tier talent and nostalgic sentiment, with past champions including the likes of Ben Hogan, Phil Mickelson, and more recently, players like Kevin Kisner and Justin Rose. With $9.1 million up for grabs and 500 FedEx Cup points on offer, the stakes are high on the banks of the Trinity River.
PGA Tour Charles Schwab Challenge: The Field
The 2025 Charles Schwab Challenge boasts a strong field of 135 players, headlined by World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who enters the tournament fresh off back-to-back victories at the Byron Nelson and the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow. Scheffler, a Texas native, is returning to his home state and aiming to capitalize on his exceptional form. Notably, he finished as the runner-up at this event last year, adding to the anticipation surrounding his performance this week.
Joining Scheffler are several notable players, including Jordan Spieth, the 2016 champion, who brings experience and a strong track record at Colonial Country Club. Other prominent competitors include Hideki Matsuyama, Maverick McNealy, and Tommy Fleetwood, all of whom are seeking to make their mark in this storied tournament.
PGA Tour Charles Schwab Challenge: The Course
Colonial Country Club remains one of the few untouched gems on the PGA Tour—a course that has stood the test of time without needing wholesale changes. Measuring just over 7,200 yards (par 70), Colonial places a premium on positional play and strategic ball placement. The tight, tree-lined fairways and small, well-bunkered greens demand accuracy from tee to green, making it a test of discipline more than distance.
The course is most famous for its “Horrible Horseshoe”—holes 3 through 5—considered one of the toughest three-hole stretches on Tour. The par-4 3rd, with its dogleg left and narrow landing area, sets the tone, followed by the brutally long par-3 4th, often requiring long irons or hybrids. The 5th, a par-4 that bends right and features a tricky green, rounds out the gauntlet. Surviving this stretch even at level par can be a key to staying in contention over the weekend.
PGA Tour Charles Schwab Challenge Best Bets
If we are being honest with ourselves, it’s hard to see anyone other than Scottie Scheffler winning this tournament. He proved that he can back up a major win last season when he won the RBC Heritage the week following the Masters. However, we can’t in good conscience bet the $3.40 price tag that’s currently on offer, so we’ll look for value this week.
Harris English ($33/Top 30 $1.90 at Betfair)
Harris English enters the Charles Schwab Challenge in impressive form, having recently tied for second at the PGA Championship. His performance included a superb final round 65, showcasing his ability to compete at the highest level. English also has a strong history at Colonial Country Club, with six top-20 finishes in nine starts, including a second-place finish in 2016. Given his current form and past success at this venue, an each-way bet at 40/1 presents a compelling value opportunity.
Christian Bezuidenhout ($61/Top 30 $2.37 at Betfair)
Christiaan Bezuidenhout's game is well-suited for the challenges of Colonial Country Club. His precise ball-striking and strong short game make him a contender on courses that reward accuracy over power. With a recent top-10 finish at the RBC Heritage, Bezuidenhout has demonstrated the form necessary to compete at a high level. His ability to navigate tight fairways and small greens positions him as a potential surprise contender this week.
