NBA Playoffs Betting Tips: Saturday, May 16th 2026
Detroit Pistons at Cleveland Cavaliers (9:00am AEST)
This Eastern Conference matchup has completely shifted. The Detroit Pistons won the first two games at home before the Cleveland Cavaliers won the next three games, the latest was a road win 117-113 courtesy of James Harden’s 30 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. He received plenty of support from Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen and Max Strus. The Cavs are now just one win away from toppling the top seed and booking themselves a spot in the Eastern Conference Finals against the New York Knicks.
There are two glaring challenges for the Pistons in this game. The first is playing on the road at Rocket Arena where they have lost the last three games. The second is All-Star center Jalen Duren who has been a non-factor throughout the postseason. He is struggling to score double figures despite a regular season average of 19.5 points per game. Head coach JB Bickerstaff benched Duren for the entire fourth quarter and overtime in Game 5, opting for Paul Reed who finished with 15 points in 14 minutes. It’s not just scoring woes either for Duren, he had just two rebounds in 26 minutes.
With home-court advantage, the experienced backcourt of Harden and Mitchell, and big man Allen who is clearly getting the better of Duren so far in the series, the Cavaliers look hard to beat at home and can eliminate the Pistons in this game.

San Antonio Spurs at Minnesota Timberwolves (11:30am AEST)
The San Antonio Spurs hold a 3-2 lead over the Minnesota Timberwolves and they have a chance to book a mouth-watering Western Conference Finals clash with the Oklahoma City Thunder. First, they must win in Minnesota, which is what they did in Game 3. In Game 5, the Spurs obliterated the Wolves, winning 126-97 as Victor Wembanyama dropped 27 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, while having three blocks. Sixth Man of the Year Keldon Johnson scored 21 points in just 22 minutes.
A big advantage that the Spurs possess against the Wolves is that they have a better bench. With Johnson and Dylan Harper as part of the second unit, both clearly capable of being starters if they played elsewhere, the Timberwolves don’t get a break defensively. That’s before mentioning that Harper is a tremendous defender – both Harper and Wemby on the floor together dramatically improves the team’s defense, and the Timberwolves are finding it difficult to combat the pair.
Anthony Edwards is playing through injury unfortunately, which means Julius Randle, Jaden McDaniels, Ayo Dosunmu and Naz Reid need to step up offensively to support the injured superstar. Defensive anchor Rudy Gobert will try his best to contain Wemby, but he adds almost nothing offensively, so that could hinder the team in this must-win Game 6. The Spurs look to have the Timberwolves’ number right now and with a blockbuster WCF matchup on the cards, the Spurs look a strong chance to cover the line.
Spurs -4.5
