The Group 1 Moir Stakes will headline Victorian racing at Moonee Valley this weekend as the first weekend of Spring highlights some of the country's best sprinters.
The weather is meant to be fine despite some high winds around, and the Moonee Valley track is predicted to be a Soft 5 during the afternoon but there is a chance of an upgrade later in the program.
The action starts from 12:10pm AEST as Brendan Bunworth brings you his thoughts for EVERY race on the card, as well as his Quaddie selections, below with odds thanks to Dabble!

Moonee Valley Racing Tips: Saturday, September 6th 2025 (Moir Stakes Day)
Race 1: Ladbrokes Top 2/3/4 Betting Handicap (1600m) - 12:10pm (AEST)
(1) Crossbow for Team Waller gets the nod here after a gallant 2nd last start at this track. He settled 5th that day and ran on very nicely and the extra 70m here should suit. Is very fit now and Blake Shinn gets the ride.
(2) Godfred Kirk was in the same race as Crossbow and was held up for a run after drawing barrier 1 that day. Jamie Mott stays on and it looks as though it will be a tactical race this one.
(5) Ornos gets the services of Damien Lane who is flying after another Group 1 win last week. Was 3rd against the above last week and he can win if the track is upgraded to Good.
Race 2: Drummond Golf Handicap (1600m) - 12:40pm (AEST)
(11) Yachio (Japananese) has Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr as trainers here. He has been freshened for this one and he was well supported last start when 3rd. He ran on well at Lakeside and will likely get back in the field here so might need luck. Has never raced on a Soft track but is very handy on the Good.
(4) Jazz Affair will want a Dry track for the Jolly stable and it looks as though they will. He drops 2kg for this race which helps and he should get a good steer from Zahra who has drawn barrier 4.
(3) Lake Vostok has drawn wide in 11 but will likely go back anyway. She likes this distance and is 1 from 1 on the Soft.
(11) Yachio
$4.40 (1 unit)
Race 3: Strathmore Community Bank Handicap (1600m) - 1:15pm (AEST)
(3) Reset The Jazz gets the nod in a very tricky affair. The consistent gelding has drawn well in 2 and has placed in both starts at this track. Tough race though and its a No bet from me.
(3) Reset The Jazz
No Bet
Race 4: Rexel Electrical Supplies Handicap (2040m) - 1:50pm (AEST)
(15) Dream All Day is first emergency but he should get a run in this race. Was beaten 50L in Adelaide last start and basically gave up so he will appreciate the Dry here. He will likely go back from barrier 16 and make a sustained run from about the 800m mark. One June 7 was the last time that she saw a relatively Dry track and she was backed to win on that occasion (9th). Over the odds I reckon.
(10) Navy King led all of the way at The Valley last start and the King will likely try to lead all of the way again. Has barrier 13 though so might use a bit of petrol up early.
(8) Fame needs a wet track but has been racing well. He can still place in this race and he might get a gun run in around 3rd from barrier 5.
(15) Dream All Day
$8.50 (1 unit)
Race 5: Orbit Logistics Chautaqua Stakes (1200m) - 2:25pm (AEST)
(2) Zou Sensation loves a Good track or a Soft5 track which could be the key here. Likes The Valley and and he has been freshened after he got the money at Flemington. Drops 200m but to the 1200m and he has won 5 races over this distance. Will settle in about 4th in the run and he should be strong to the line.
(3) Angel Capital has won 3 from 4 starts on Good tracks so would like a track upgrade. Barrier 2 is a good get and the Waller trained horse has trialled up well for this.
(7) Danny’s St Darci is a knockout chance who will be running on well at the end. Likes the track, likes the distance and likes the conditions. 26-1 is too high.
(2) Zou Sensation
$3.70 (1 unit)
Race 6: McMahon’s Dairy McKenzie Stakes (1200m) - 3:00pm (AEST)
(9) Rosberg has drawn well in barrier 2 and the $750,000 colt is having his first start. Reports are that he is pretty good too so Jamie Melham has hopped straight on. Impressive trial winner at Cranbourne on August 11 and he gets a tongue tie on for the debut run. Might have a good Spring this one.
(4) Beskar is first up and has won when first up previously. Has raced against Group class horses and will find this race easier. May enjoy getting off the Heavy too.
(2) Bacash is race fit after 2 runs in from a spell and he did lead all of the way at Morphetville last start. Harder here but is proven over the distance.
(9) Rosberg
$4.60 (1 unit)
Race 7: Musk Creek Farm Atlantic Jewell Stales (1200m) - 3:35pm (AEST)
(1) The Playwright is second up and comes off a good effort in the Group 3 Quizette last start when 5th but only beaten 1.5L. Gets the blinkers on here and her two Sydney trials were highly rated. Jett Stanley takes the ride here and he will want to impress so he keeps riding for Waterhouse&Bott during the big races in a few weeks time.
(5) Ole Dancer got a rails run to score on a Soft 5 last start and he gets a Soft 5 here too. He stays at the 1200m and he is going for three in a row.
(2) Ferivia has won 2 races on the Soft and the Stokes trained filly ran on well to score at Caulfield last start (Group 3 Quizette). Rises 2.5kg in weight which might hurt.
(1) The Playwright
$5.50 (1 unit)
Race 8: Ranvert So You Think Stakes (1500m) - 4:15pm (AEST)
(13) Zardozi is first up for the Maher stable and she flies fresh and on Soft tracks. Jamie Melham stays on and she has placed in every start when on Zardozi. The former Cummings trained mare is a Group horse who is 1 from 1 when over the 1500m. If the track is Good by this time of the day then it's a no bet but her credentials are good enough to be in the finish if the track remains Soft.
(6) Moira ran on well for 4th in the Group 2 St Lawrence (2.7L) and that was a harder race than this. Has good second up credentials but barrier 12 is a worry.
(8) Anisette goes really well fresh and she has an excellent winning strike rate. Is in the right stable (Waller) and $8.50 looks too high.
(13) Zardozi
$6.50 (1 unit)
Race 9: Charter Keck Cramer Moir Stakes (1000m) - 4:50pm (AEST)
(11) Skybird will get back in the run but there is so much pace in this race so she might get the last crack at them. She is resuming for Mitch Freedman and she flies on Dry tracks and there is no rain expected on the day. Won a Horsham trial on August 27 but hasn’t raced in 6 months. On that occasion she flew late to win at Flemington (Group 1 Lightning).
(12) Alabama Lass will settle in the top 3 early from barrier 3. Has the services of Craig Williams and she will want Dry ground. Has won 6 from 9 and Willow knows her well.
(1) Rothfire has drawn quite well in barrier 6 which will allow him to settle midfield. Has a good first up record and has won more than 3.5mlillion in prize so has the experience on some of these. Has won 4 from 9 over this distance and is proven at this track.

(11) Skybird
$8.50 (1 unit)
Race 10: Powerflo Solutions Handicap (1200m) - 5:25pm (AEST)
(3) King Zephyr is resuming and has drawn well in barrier 3. Goes well fresh and the track should just about be fully Dry by the last which will suit. Jordan Childs has ridden the King to 5 previous victories and knows him well. First look here but should be forward enough to show best after 3 recent trials. Has carried 59kg to victory previously and is your likely fav.
(1) La Fracas has had 7 weeks off since winning 3 in a row with the latest being at Flemington when he ran on really well. Has to carry 3 more kilograms here for Blake Shinn which is the worry.
(10) Prinzess Que got up by a nose last start at Lakeside and Lane stays on which is a bonus. Faces her toughest test yet but has run a 2nd and 1st at The Valley from 2 attempts.
(3) King Zephyr
$2.70 (2 units)
