Eels vs Knights Preview & Betting Tips: NRL Round 27 2025

September 6th 2025, 4:45pm, By: Ben Bridge

NRL Eels vs Knights Tips

Another NRL season comes to a close on Sunday afternoon, with the Eels welcoming the Knights to CommBank Stadium to say farewell to another tremendous regular season of rugby league. With the Eels finishing the season strong, and the Knights clearly the worst team in the league right now, this could turn into even more embarrassment for the road team, with a Titans win guaranteeing them with the wooden spoon if they lose.

Ben Bridge is back with his free preview and NRL best bets for this match below and if you’re keen to play along, simply join Next2Go via this link!

Eels vs Knights Prediction & Tips: 2025 NRL Round 27

Eels a Real Shot at Top 8 in 2026

The Eels have looked like a borderline top 8 team to finish the season, winning their past two games and four of their past six, with notable wins over the Broncos, Roosters, and Warriors, and a tight loss to the Storm. There is no coincidence that their spike in form has come with captain and halfback Mitch Moses returning to the fold, however, don’t discount the tremendous job first year Head Coach Jason Ryles has done, with the culture at Parramatta looking more positive than it has in years.

Last week, the Eels headed to Auckland to take on a Warriors team that were desperate to win to help their top 4 chances, and so were expected to beat the Eels at home. The Eels didn’t get the memo, as they dominated for the opening 55 minutes of the matchup, leading 20-4 whilst looking every bit the top 8 side. The Warriors managed two quick tries to put fear into Eels’ faithful, but boom rookie Isaiah Iongi stopped the bleeding with a try in the 64th minute to push the lead back to double digits, which was ultimately enough as the Eels got home 26-22.

The Warriors actually dominated almost all statistical categories, and it was an indication of not only the Eels’ efficiency in attack, but also how much the Warriors attack has dropped off since losing halfback Luke Metcalf. Nevertheless, the Eels completed at 92% and thoroughly deserved the win, with Isaiah Iongi continuing his ascendancy into the top young fullbacks in the game, scoring two tries, breaking the line once, running for 182 metres and busting five tackles.

Knights Finish the Season as by Far the Worst Team in NRL

The Knights’ season continues to go from bad to worse, now losers of five in a row and nine of their past 10 games of football. Even these statistics don’t show just how poor the Knights have been over the past five games, as they have only managed to score 12.4 points per game, whilst conceding a whopping 43.2 points per game. The market has not been able to keep up with the cratering form of the Knights, and betting on them to not cover has been free money over the past month of footy.

Last week, the Knights headed to Shark Park to take on the Sharks who closed 18.5-point home favourites. The Knights actually shot out to a 10-0 lead inside the opening 20 minutes, but it didn’t take long for the Sharks to take over the game, scoring four tries in 15 minutes before halftime, before scoring another straight after the break, pushing the Sharks out to a 24-10 lead. Two more unanswered tries from the Sharks put the game beyond reach, with the Sharks eventually winning 40-16.

Looking for positives, and it was the left edge in attack that was working well for the Knights, with Greg Marzhew running for 187 metres, scoring a try, breaking the line once, and busting six tackles, whilst inside him Bradman Best ran for 150 metres, breaking the line once, setting up a try, busting four tackles and popping four offloads.

Eels vs Knights Recent History

The Eels have dominated the recent rivalry between these teams, winning seven of the past eight games between the teams. The Knights haven’t managed a win in Parramatta since the 2014 season.

In the last meeting between the teams, the Eels closed 1.5-point favourites on the road back in round 11 at McDonald Jones Stadium, with the total closing 44.5. With the Knights far closer to full strength than they are right now, the Eels still dominated the game, leading 28-0 with five minutes remaining, before a late James Schiller try gave the home crowd something to cheer. The Eels dominated statistically, outgaining the Knights by nearly 350 metres, making seven-line breaks to three, and breaking a massive 49 tackles to 22.

Zac Lomax had a massive game, running for 271 metres, scoring two tries and breaking the line twice, creating a line break and busting four tackles, whilst Mitch Moses was pulling the strings all game long. For the Knights, Kalyn Ponga was heavily involved, running for 254 metres and two-line breaks, and there was not a whole lot else to write about for the home side.

Take the Easy Fade on the Knights

The Eels were listed as 12.5-point favourites at open, before Knights money inextricably hit the market to drop this to 11.5. Cooler heads have prevailed, as Eels money quickly came into market pushing this back to 13.5. Once again, my numbers have not been able to keep up with how bad the Knights are, with my fair number sitting at Eels -11.5, however there is no way in the world I will be betting the Knights in this game.

The total opened 48.5, and like most other games this week has been heavily bet to the over, with the total now sitting at 51.5 and looking to push higher. I can see this closing 53.5 without issue. I would heavily lean towards the under here, and will probably even bet it, despite my reticence in these late season games that mean nothing to bet an under, given the discrepancy in my numbers to the total. The Knights cannot score points, and you’re essentially asking the Eels to score 40+ here. This can obviously happen, but I wouldn’t bet on it, and I think I’ll leave the total alone.

So, really there isn’t a lot to say here in my opinion. Take the last opportunity of the season to blindly fade the Knights and take the Eels to cover.

Lomax to Leap for Two

Lomax has been quiet since the Origin break, but he has a chance to leave the 2025 season in style against a team he had two tries against earlier this season. A double for the Blues winger.

Zac Lomax (2+ tries)
