Canterbury hosts seven midweek races on Wednesday, starting with a pair of Maiden events followed by two BM64 and three BM72 contests. The first race commences at 12:50pm AEST and the last runs at 4:20pm AEST. The track is currently a Soft 6, and conditions are expected to be sunny on race day.

Canterbury Racing Tips: Wednesday, July 23rd 2025
Race 3: TAB HANDICAP (1100 METRES) – 2:00pm (AEST)
(2) Shalaa Gold resumes to racing on the back of two trials, including a win over 1050m when defeating King Of Roseau who has since won at the races in a BM88 event. We can’t take a full line through that as the runner up sat back and made up many lengths in the home straight. However, it was an encouraging trial for the Bjorn Baker-trained three-year-old gelding Shalaa Gold who will ping to the lead in this event and try to lead all the way. He has won once and been runner up in four from six career starts. It’s just the 61.5kg that is a little concerning.
(6) Bev’s Nine captured his first win on debut over 1000m in a Wyong Maiden and has strong claims again. Draws the outside gate and jockey Zac Lloyd jumps aboard. Both my top picks in the race are sons of Shalaa, and it will be interesting to see what tactics Lloyd employs from that draw. Should rattle home if they settle back in the field.
(4) Kilonova was run down in the concluding stages last time when finishing second in a small field of four runners. Prepared by Chris Waller, the three-year-old filly had previously won on debut before being turned out for a spell. She drops back from 1200m to 1100m here and looks another strong contender in a very competitive race.
(2) Shalaa Gold WIN
$3.80 (2 units)
Race 4: BROADSIDING @ DARLEY HANDICAP (1250 METRES) – 2:35pm (AEST)
(5) Amreekiyah will look to remain unbeaten when the three-year-old filly returns to the races for trainer Peter Snowden. She had a look around the track last month for a 900m trial and then headed to Hawkesbury over 1000m in preparation for this first-up assignment. Amreekiyah should map favourably from barrier four and Kerrin McEvoy retains the ride. Looks very hard to beat.
(4) Ringarosa wasn’t a bad first up run chasing home Romeo’s Choice when finishing 1.73 lengths behind the winner. Romeo’s Choice has since come out and won again, capturing the Schweppes Sprint (1100m). That form line looks good and Ringarosa has drawn barrier three. Expecting the mare to run a good race.
(1) Island Dream is a three-year-old filly representing Chris Waller and she was a winner two starts ago in a BM72 event. She then headed to the Group 2 Kembla Grange Classic (1600m) before having a spell. Island Dream has two trials under the belt and whatever she does here, she will derive plenty of benefit from the run.
(5) Amreekiyah WIN
$2.40 (3 units)
Race 6: PRIVATE LIFE @ COOLMORE HANDICAP (1250 METRES) – 3:45pm (AEST)
(10) The Replicant has only won three races from 39 starts but has been placed a further 22 times in his career. At Canterbury Park he has placed in all three runs, including a second at the track a fortnight ago in this grade. This is an extremely competitive contest, and it won’t be easy to find the winner, but The Replicant can figure if he doesn’t get too far back.
(2) Pretty Powerful was victorious at the track back in January and his unplaced effort at Randwick can be forgiven. Has since trialled and has won second up from a spell. The three-year-old Chris Waller-trained colt can finish powerfully in this field and could be hard to hold out late.
(9) True Amor is a last start winner at Wyong over 1200m and should be forward in the run from a middle barrier. Yet to place in two attempts at Canterbury, the three-year-old gelding is right in the mix in a race where most of the field could win without shocking.
(10) The Replicant WIN
$6.50 (1 unit)
