Big Bash League (BBL15) Thunder vs Renegades Betting Tips
ENGIE Stadium, Monday 12th January, 7.15pm AEDT
Sydney Thunder
The Thunder remain anchored to the bottom of the table with a 1–7 record after another frustrating defeat, this time against the Heat. Batting first, they did plenty right with the bat, posting a competitive 6 for 180, driven by a classy 82 off 56 balls from skipper David Warner. It was one of the few occasions this season where Sydney’s top order delivered a strong platform.
Unfortunately, the bowling once again let them down. Brisbane cruised to 3 for 183 with 22 balls to spare, with Chris Green the lone bright spot, finishing with 1 for 28 from four overs. Warner’s fitness is now a key watch after he was unable to field late in that match due to a knee issue. With finals hopes gone, the Thunder may experiment, potentially giving opportunities to younger players, while Ryan Hadley looks set to make way after failing to cement his spot.
Melbourne Renegades
The Renegades sit seventh at 3–4 and remain very much in the hunt despite a heavy loss in the second Melbourne derby on Saturday night. Batting first at Marvel Stadium, they posted 7 for 166, with Josh Brown continuing his excellent form at the top, smashing 80 off 50 balls to give the innings some real substance.
That proved nowhere near enough. The Stars made light work of the chase, passing the target just two wickets down with 25 balls to spare. A runout accounted for the only wicket, leaving Hassan Khan as the sole wicket-taker. Selection questions loom with Adam Zampa and Tom Rogers both racing fitness tests, while Brendan Doggett is expected to retain his spot despite a tough return from Test duty. Harry Dixon is also pushing for a middle-order opportunity after Caleb Jewell’s golden duck last time out.
Match Prediction
This is a difficult game to read given both sides are coming off flat performances, but the Renegades appear to have more going for them at this stage. Their batting has genuine form through Josh Brown and Mohammad Rizwan, and their fast bowling group, while understated, has depth and experience with Doggett, Behrendorff and Sandhu.
The Thunder, meanwhile, continue to rely heavily on Warner and struggle to apply pressure with the ball. Even at home, it is hard to trust them to put together a complete performance. The lean is Renegades to get the job done, keeping their finals hopes alive with a crucial road win.

Josh Brown to score 25 plus runs looks a strong play. The hard-hitting opener has been in excellent touch across his last five innings, posting scores of 26, 43, 84, 22 and 80. With confidence high and the Thunder attack leaking runs consistently, Brown shapes as a reliable option to again provide Melbourne with a fast start.
