Eels vs Panthers Predictions & Tips: NRL Round 21 2026

A lot to be desired

It was a week off for the Eels to lament their 28-12 road loss to the Roosters. After appearing capable of making a contest of the result after only trailing 4-nil at HT, they quickly fell away in the second half when the Roosters kicked into another gear. A lack of possession (42%) and poor completion rate (69%) hurt their cause, as did only making 7.7m per carry. Their defence was also poor, missing 40 tackles and allowing 713 PCM’s. They are a more capable team than that effort suggests but must begin to start showing it.

Defeated, again

It was an upset 14-12 home loss to the Broncos last week for the Panthers, meaning that they have won just 1 of their past 4 matches. While other factors have impacted that performance, there should be no hiding from the fact that they failed to build on a 12-8 HT lead. A lack of possession (43%) limited their attacking opportunities, as did their 78% completion rate. They were unable to use their 9.4m per carry or 5 line breaks to their advantage. They also need a shift defensively, as they missed 33 tackles and conceded 729 PCM’s. Perhaps, this is the loss they needed to have to reset them ahead of the Finals.

Stats that matter

- The Eels have won just 3 of the past 10 games between these two sides, defeated 48-20 in Round 4. Thankfully, they have a strong record at this ground compared to their opponents (61% vs 58%).

- In the past 5 games between these two sides, 2 blowout margins has seen the average margin of victory sit at 13.2 points. In the same games, the average total points is 50.4.

- It is no surprise to see the Panthers dominate on both sides of the ball this season. They score 30ppg in attack compared to the Eels 19ppg and concede only 13ppg whereas the Eels leak 29ppg.

Time to rediscover their form

Their recent run isn’t what we are accustomed to from the Panthers. There have been parts of their execution which have been positive, while others have been poor. Now, it is the time for them to get back on track with the Finals approaching. The Eels come at the right time for them to achieve this. Despite the boost which the Eels receive with Moses returning to their team, a lot more will be needed if the home team are to cause an upset. Kenny and Edwards’ absence at hooker will make it difficult again initially, but there is enough class to overcome this.

It is difficult to see any other outcome than the Panthers winning this match; therefore, the decision comes down to where the value lies in the visitors capturing victory. The average win/loss margin this season (Panthers 23.9 vs Eels 20.6) suggests that a blowout victory is ahead. The Eels will be competitive in this match to some extent; they seem to leave their best form for this matchup. That will matter little though as the Panthers regain confidence and cover the line which is lower than expected considering the talent involved with the two teams.

Leg 1 = Total points over 44.5 – see above for justification.

Leg 2 = Panthers 13+ - just to add value on a bet which should salute.

Leg 3 = Papali’I to score – while there are safer options in Jenkins (5 tries in the past 4 games against the Eels) and Alamoti (3 tries in the past 4 matches against the Eels), the former Eels appears to enjoy playing this match. He has scored 2 tries in his past 3 matches and will again be a threat on the edge.

Scooby's strength is assessing the overall team - what they offer across the field in a match and how the ethos of a club contributes to their success. Momentum also has a major impact on sports, and Scooby likes to explore this, while underpinning his judgement against a solid basis of statistical analysis. When combined with the aforementioned points, it combines for a holistic approach towards betting on rugby league.
