Belmont Racing Tips: Saturday, May 17th 2025
Race 3: LAWN PRIDE AUSTRALIA HANDICAP (1000 METRES) – 1:16pm (3:16pm AEST)
(2) Richanco returned to the races a fortnight ago where the four-year-old gelding led them all the way for a 1.34-length victory over Keep Ita Mystery. From the middle of the line in barrier five, jockey Brad Parnham is going to send Richanco in search for the lead. Prospector’s Pick has drawn inside which means Richanco could be forced to sit outside him. Either way, the son of Rich Enuff enjoyed the 1000m last time and should do so again. Hard to beat.
(7) Prospector’s Pick drawing the inside gate with Pike aboard off a last-start victory is a good form line heading into Saturday's event. With options, the Simon Miller-trained four-year-old gelding is going to be setting the pace or stalking it and poised to strike.
(1) Keep Ita Mystery is the other runner that the market has singled out, with the remaining five runners in double figures. The three-year-old gelding chased home Richanco last time out and his form is excellent this preparation. Can play a part in the finish once again.
(2) Richanco WIN
$3.00 (2 units)
Race 6: ASCEND TROPHIES HANDICAP (1200 METRES) – 3:10pm (5:10pm AEST)
(5) Catch Carter is a three-year-old gelding prepared by Meryl Hayley. A winner of one from nine, Catch Carter contested the Listed Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Classic (1400m) back in November when finishing seventh. He then resumed without a trial when third behind Kay Tee Why which is a nice form line for this event. Catch Carter settled last and began making a run at the top of the straight when doing his best work late through the line. He can settle closer and be dangerous late.
(10) American Escape has trialled well in preparation for her resumption. The three-year-old filly boasts two wins from five career starts and looms as a big danger to Catch Carter. Gate four looks perfect and the map plus her talent will take her a long way to claiming a first up victory.
(4) Close Talker was fourth at her return to racing and will be giving the three-year-olds a head start in the run as she jumps from the outside barrier with Pike aboard. She should be doing her best work late, but it may be too late against the top pair in the market.
(5) Catch Carter WIN
$2.90 (2 Units)
Race 9: KITT LOGISTICS HANDICAP (1400 METRES) – 4:50pm (6:50pm AEST)
(1) Speed Dream is having start number 44 with the seven-year-old gelding not known for his winning ability, with just four wins to date. He has had 18 minor placings though, so appeals more on a place basis but you need to be on for the win at the price on offer. The Roland Piercey-trained gelding has been placed at his last two starts at Ascot, including an excellent second behind Siberian Siren. He will carry 60kg but has finished on the podium in seven of his 10 runs at the track.
(8) Correct Choice is a last start winner at Ascot and was also victorious three runs back. Trained by Michael Grantham, the four-year-old gelding gets a 2kg claim with Brayden Gaerth booked for the ride. Gate four should see him settle handy in the run and there’s no reason why he won’t be fighting out the finish in this big field to finish the day’s racing.
(12) Black Ora won two straight before finishing fifth behind Richanco over the 1000m. She jumps up 400m in distance, although she has run well both times over said distance. Gate 12 won’t be the easiest to navigate in the big field.
(1) Speed Dream E/W
$13.20/$3.85 (1U/2U)
