2025 AFLW Round 5 Betting Tips
Collingwood vs Sydney
Saturday 1:05pm AEST, Victoria Park
Round 5 in the AFLW gets underway with a matchup between the 1-3 Magpies and the undefeated 4-0 Swans. The Magpies have had tough games against the Demons and the Kangaroos over the past fortnight and face another formidable opponent here. Their lone win came three starts back against the still winless Giants. In positive news, Jordy Allen comes in for her first game of the season and is a crucial cog for the Pies whether she lines up in defence or on a wing.
The Swans have been perhaps the surprise packet so far this campaign with 4 wins from as many games. They were too strong for the Dockers last weekend in a 25-point win and are one of four teams still unblemished in 2025. Chloe Molloy has been dominant up forward and is well on track to smash the most goals in a season record, while Laura Gardiner has been dominant in the midfield and Zippy Fish has provided plenty of run off half back.
The Swans are the deserving favourites however they’re certainly short enough. The Pies do possess a lot of talent and with Allen returning and home ground advantage on their side, I think they can hang around long enough to cover the big spread.

Carlton vs Gold Coast
Saturday 2:35pm AEST, IKON Park
The Blues have been in strong form to start the season with their only loss coming against the red-hot Hawks, while their season highlight to date was a 14-point win against the Lions. Last week the Blues took care of business against the Bulldogs by 16 points. Keeley Sherar is coming off a B&F win and is dominating again, although she’ll be without her running mate and captain in Abbie McKay who misses this week with injury.
Meanwhile, the Suns were able to get off the mark in season 2025 last weekend with a strong win against another struggling side in the Giants. They conceded back-to-back scores of 100+ points prior to last week, so it was a great response. The return of Claudia Whitfort in the middle has been important, and they’ll get another gun back from injury this week with Charlie Rowbottom returning after missing with a shoulder injury.
The Blues are clearly the better side this season, but the Suns will have improved confidence after last week’s showing, and with some important players starting to return to the lineup, I think they’ll be far more competitive moving forward. Take them to cover the big spread here.

Port Adelaide vs Melbourne
Saturday 3:05pm AEST, Alberton Oval
After making a prelim last year, the Power were dealt a much tougher draw in 2025 and their results through the first month reflect that. They’ve won only one of their three matches which was a 68-point thrashing of the Suns two weeks back. Most recently, the Power were outgunned by the young Eagles, which puts a big dent in their chances of making finals in the 12-week season.
The Demons narrowly missed out on finals action last year and look determined to make amends. The perennial premiership contenders are yet to put a foot wrong this year with a 4-0 record, although they’re yet to really face anyone of note. Kate Hore and Tyla Hanks have been utterly dominant through the middle of the park, although the loss of Olivia Purcell for the season cannot be understated.
The Power have taken a couple of steps back this season and their current form isn’t in the same ballpark as the Demons. However, at home they should still show enough fight to keep it somewhat close.

GWS vs Western Bulldogs
Saturday 4:35pm AEST, Corroboree Group Oval Manuka
The Giants are one of two teams still searching for their first win of 2025 and they missed a golden opportunity to change that last week against the Suns. The Giants were dealt a cruel blow in their opening game of the season when Alyce Parker went down with injury, and they simply don’t have the midfield depth to fill such a big void.
The Bulldogs are part of the 1-3 logjam that includes seven teams, so it’s important they take care of business on Saturday to keep their finals hopes alive. Their lone win came in an upset against the Tigers a couple of weeks ago, while their most recent result was a loss against the Blues.
This is probably the Giants best chance to get a win for the rest of the season when looking at their tough draw. However, the Bulldogs are the much more talented outfit and I think they win this by at least a couple of goals.
Western Bulldogs –12.5

Essendon vs St Kilda
Sunday 1:05pm AEST, Windy Hill
Essendon will be looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season when they host St Kilda at Windy Hill on Sunday. The Bombers had a powerful start to their 2025 campaign but were brought back down to earth by a formidable Geelong outfit last week. Despite the setback, they possess a damaging midfield duo in Madison Prespakis and Georgia Nanscawen, who will be eager to assert their dominance. Co-captain Bonnie Toogood provides a strong target up forward and will be crucial to their scoring chances.
St Kilda, on the other hand, are hoping to build some momentum and secure their second win of the year. They have shown glimpses of strong form but have struggled with consistency. The Saints will rely heavily on the experience of Jaimee Lambert in the middle and the goalkicking prowess of Jesse Wardlaw to challenge the home side.
However, Essendon's depth and potent forward line should prove too much for the Saints to handle. Expect the Bombers to control the contest from the outset, moving the ball with speed and precision. Their ability to hit the scoreboard, combined with a desire to rebound strongly from last week's defeat, should see them win comfortably and cover the -9.5 point spread.
Essendon –9.5

Richmond vs Geelong
Sunday 1:05pm AEST, IKON Park
Geelong enters Sunday’s clash at Ikon Park brimming with confidence after a commanding 31-point victory over Essendon, marking their first win of the season. The Cats dominated every facet of that game and will look to carry that momentum against a struggling Richmond side. The midfield power of Georgie Prespakis and Amy McDonald, combined with the dangerous forward presence of Jackie Parry and Aishling Moloney, gives Geelong a formidable edge.
Richmond, still searching for their first win of 2025, faces an enormous challenge. While superstar Monique Conti continues to rack up possessions, the Tigers have battled to translate her individual brilliance into scoreboard pressure. They were comprehensively beaten by Melbourne last week and will need a significant team-wide lift to compete with a Cats team that has found its groove.
Expect Geelong to control the territory and overwhelm the winless Tigers. Their superior ball movement and forward firepower should see them win comfortably and cover the -20.5 spread.

Hawthorn vs Adelaide
Sunday 3:05pm AEST, Kinetic Stadium
Get ready for a blockbuster AFLW clash as the Hawthorn Hawks host the Adelaide Crows this Sunday. The Hawks, a surprise packet this season, have been in red-hot form and will be looking to continue their undefeated start. However, they face their toughest test yet against the formidable Crows.
Adelaide, smarting from a close loss last week, will be desperate to return to the winners' list and prove they're still a premiership contender. With stars like Ebony Marinoff and Anne Hatchard controlling the midfield, and the scoring prowess of Danielle Ponter and Caitlin Gould up forward, the Crows possess the firepower to challenge any team.
While Hawthorn will rely on their strong team defence and the leadership of Emily Bates, the Crows' experience and talent across the board should see them get over the line in a hard-fought contest. Expect the Crows to win by a narrow margin.

Brisbane vs North Melbourne
Sunday 3:05pm AEST, Brighton Homes Arena
Sunday's clash between the Brisbane Lions and North Melbourne Kangaroos is a blockbuster Grand Final rematch with massive top-four implications. The Kangaroos have been in blistering form, but they face a stern test against a Lions outfit desperate to prove they can match it with the best.
The Lions have a point to prove after their grand final defeat and will be fired up on their home deck. They'll look to their midfield stars like Ally Anderson and Cathy Svarc to apply immense pressure and stifle North's potent attack. While the Roos, led by the sublime Jasmine Garner, will be difficult to contain, the Lions' ferocious pressure and inside-50 dominance should keep them within striking distance.
Expect a fierce, contested battle with the Lions bringing the heat from the first bounce. The Kangaroos will likely emerge victorious, but the Lions' grit and determination will ensure they keep the margin to a respectable one, covering the +17.5 spread.

Fremantle vs West Coast
Sunday 5:05pm AEST, Fremantle Oval
Western Australian football takes center stage this Sunday to close out the round as the Fremantle Dockers host the West Coast Eagles in a crucial Western Derby. The Dockers will be desperate to get their season back on track after a challenging start, while the Eagles, under coach Daisy Pearce, are flying high and looking for their first-ever derby victory.
Fremantle's hopes will rest on the shoulders of their star midfield, led by the unstoppable Kiara Bowers. The Dockers are bolstered by the return of All-Australian defender Emma O'Driscoll, who will be a key figure in stopping the Eagles' forward line.
Despite West Coast's strong form and newfound belief, the history of this rivalry is hard to ignore. The Dockers have won every AFLW derby to date, and with their season on the line and a home crowd behind them, expect Fremantle's trademark pressure to overwhelm the Eagles in a fierce contest. The Dockers to win by two goals.
