French Grand Prix Betting Tips
Lewis Hamilton is the defending champion in France and will be looking to continue the dominance of the Mercedes’ team by going back to back this weekend.
The Track
Circuit Paul Ricard will host the French Grand Prix for the second time since returning from a 18 year hiatus when the event was moved to the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours. Frenchman Alain Prost was the king of Circuit Paul Ricard when the track had it’s last real stint as the host of the French Grand Prix, winning the race on six different occasions through the late 80s and into the 90s.
The track will still feel extremely new to the drivers, who will have only competed there on one occasion at most. It will be a big difference to the two previous races in Monaco and Canada, which were both held on street circuits.
Circuit Paul Ricard is a much more open race style circuit where drivers will be able to be more aggressive than they were in Monaco and Canada and where they should be able to reach top speed more often. With two long straights and a fast bend at turn 10, it should give an advantage to the superior Mercedes vehicles.
Prediction
Lewis Hamilton is the only driver in the field this weekend that has won at Circuit Paul Ricard before and is driving a dominant car. The Mercedes have won every race so far in 2019 and have finished 1-2 in five of the seven races.
He has been the dominant driver of 2019, winning five of the seven races and the last three in a row in Spain, Monaco and Canada, although the win in Canada did come because of a five second penalty to Sebastian Vettel, who crossed the line first. Still, hard to look past him again this weekend even at the pretty short odds of $1.90.
