It’ll be a gloomy and potentially wet Coolmore Classic Day at Rosehill this weekend with the forecast in Sydney looking ominous. We haven’t had too many wet tracks in recent times here so it could throw a spanner in the works with a lot of horses’ form.

Rosehill Racing Tips: Saturday March 16th 2024
Race 1: Midway (Bm72) - 1200m (12:30 AEDT)
(10) Mayrose is a keen wet-tracker and returns here fresh off the back of a solid trial victory at Randwick. She’s capable of winning this especially down at the bottom of the weights.
(13) Mad Darcey is a bit of a query on the wet going having never won in the conditions. That said, she’s going great guns at the moment and if she handles the track she’s going to prove hard to beat.
(1) Black Duke can do no wrong having won 2 on the trot recently. Going for 3 here and has top weight but has the inside draw and can win on wet ground.
(10) Mayrose e/w

Race 5: James Squire Sky High Stakes - 2000m (14:50 AEDT)
(3) Lindermann gets his chance here. Short odds in a small field but deserves the respect coming out of a placing behind racing royalty in the Verry Elleegant Stakes.
(8) Athabascan plummets in weight here and gets the rail draw after failing in the same race as the favourite. That should be enough to bring him into contention here at least for the minors.
(4) Just Fine is the leader of the race. Failed 1st up but is much better than that when he’s right. Worth giving another chance.
(3) Lindermann win

Race 8: Coolmore Classic - 1500m (16:35 AEDT)
(1) Zougotcha sets up brilliantly here. Jmac is on from barrier 2 after the mare blitzed her rivals 1st up in a stomping. Only improves here 2nd up, handles the wet going and gets run of the race.
(3) Semana has ability and is incredibly consistent. She’s in with a top chance here in the wet weather provided she gets across from gate 11 well enough to find a position near the lead ideally with cover.
(6) Tropical Squall needs a mention given she should cross from the wide gate to lead. Any leader bias (which is relatively common at Rosehill) boosts this mare’s chances and she’s got the ability.
