Big Bash League (BBL15) Renegades vs Sixers Betting Tips
Marvel Stadium, Thursday 1st January, 4:00pm AEDT
Melbourne Renegades
It was a similar story for the Renegades in their four wicket defeat to the Hurricanes on Monday in Hobart. Their bowling tried to rectify a poor performance with the bat, but ultimately 163 was not a big enough target. Tim Siefert (26 off 13) and Josh Brown (26 off 14) got the Renegades off to a sharp start at 2/66 after 6 overs, but the middle order came to a grinding halt.
Muhammad Rizwan continued his struggles being dismissed for 16, Jake Fraser-McGurk once again threw away his wicket in another low score of 14, while Will Sutherland struggled in a knock of 17 off 20. Oliver Peake top scored with 29, which simply isn’t enough to win games, particularly against quality opposition. Outside of Seifert and Peake, no other Renegades batter has scored more than 53 runs through three games, which is an alarming stat.
Adam Zampa led the way with the ball, taking 3/25 from his four overs to ensure the Renegades took the game as deep as possible. AJ Tye (1/29) and Jason Behrendorff (0/21) were economical, however Gurinder Sandhu (1/50) and Will Sutherland (0/26 off 2) canceled them out. The game was right in the balance at the start of the 19th over with the Hurricanes requiring 18 off 12, before Sandhu conceded 18 runs off the 19th over and the game was over.
Sydney Sixers
The Sixers are in an unfamiliar position at 1-3 and are at risk of missing finals for the first time since BBL07, after their seven wicket defeat on Boxing Day. The Stars dominated the Sixers, restricting the home side to 144, before chasing down the target for the loss of only three wickets, with 15 deliveries to spare.
The Sixers batting has not gotten the job done so far this season, struggling to give their bowlers much of a chance. In their three losses this season the Sixers have scored 5/113, 9/159, and 144 with all three targets being chased down comfortably. Josh Philippe has carried the load with the bat, scoring 180 runs at an average of 45, but it drops away significantly after that. Babar Azam, Moises Henriques and Jordan Silk have all scored less than 75 runs and the Sixers need a big lift from their experienced campaigners.
With the ball the Sixers have lacked the same potency that has made them such a strong side across the history of the Big Bash. Jack Edwards has taken 8 wickets this season, but 5 of those came in one game against the Thunder. Joel Davies has been serviceable with 6 wickets, but from there on it’s bleak viewing with no other Sixer taking more than 3 wickets through four games. Ben Dwarshius is averaging 43 with the ball, Kane Richardson is averaging 55, while Mitch Perry is averaging 56.
Match Prediction
Both sides are out of form and in desperate need of a victory, and will be looking to revive their season on a Marvel Stadium surface that has been very ordinary to bat on. It’s not a recipe conducive to high performance, so there will be a lot of pressure on both bowling attacks to carry the load.
This has been one of the most one sided matchups in the history of the competition, with the Sixers absolutely dominating the Renegades across the Big Bash. The Sixers hold a 14-5 overall record against the Renegades, and have won nine straight games against the Renegades. The Sixers are an experienced outfit so it’s easier to have faith in them turning their season around on the back of their batting unit starting to stand up. The Sixers will continue their dominance against the Renegades to keep their season alive.

Renegades vs Sixers Prop Bet
Despite his side struggling, Josh Philippe is having a great season sitting as the third highest runscorer in the competition with 180 runs at an average of 45. Philippe will be looking to continue his form against a side that he has dominated against in recent seasons. Philippe has scored 420 runs against the Renegades, the third most of any player in games between the Sixers and Renegades - behind only Aaron Finch and Moises Henriques who have played a lot more games in this matchup. Philippe’s last eight innings against the Renegades have produced returns of 5, 29, 2, 55, 0, 48, 95, 61 and he’ll be set to go big once again.
