Flemington hosts nine races on Saturday with the first starting before midday at 11:55am (AEST). The track remains Good and the first leg of the quaddie comes up at race six which starts at 2:50pm. (AEST). King Zephyr will start favourite in the opening leg and we will be banking on him to win. Brendan Bunworth brings you his best bets for Flemington below!

Flemington Racing Tips: Saturday, May 17th 2025
Race 6: Hilton Nicholas Straight Six - 2:50pm (AEST)
(11) King Zephyr has won 5 races with Jordan Childs on board and the King has already won over the 1200m. He does settle back in his races usually and the Flemington straight should enable him plenty of time to wind up late. At this track last time he actually settled closer than usual and he put them way pretty easily and ended up winning by 2L. I reckon others go forward here and he settles in around 6th in the run. He drops 5.5kg for this but he has the class to contend at this grade.
(2) Aviatress has drawn wide here but that shouldn’t matter too much. He was 13th in the Group 1 Sangster but this is obviously easier. The Dry track is key because he has won 5 from 11 on Good tracks.
(3) Running By also prefers Dry ground but may need an extra 100m. She has won at Flemington previously though and she has also placed in Group races.
(11) King Zephyr WIN
$2.20 (3 units)
Race 7: Lexus Andrew Ramsden - 3:30pm (AEST)
(8) Mostly Cloudy has been freshened for this and despite not winning in 18 months he has quality on his day especially on Good tracks. He is proven over this distance and he has placed twice at Flemington previously. He ran a good race in the Sydney Cup last start and he worked home well on that occasion for 4th. Will settle back again but get Flemington’s long straight to reel them in.
(12) Berkshire Breeze will enjoy this track and enjoy Dry ground again. He was dour when 4th in the Mornington Cup behind Bankers Choice and thats his problem really.
(3) Athabascan is better on Soft ground therefore I don’t think he should be favourite. He drops back in distance from the Sydney Cup where he was 5th, John O’Shea is an underrated trainer but I’m not sue he can win from barrier 20.
(8) Mostly Cloudy Each-Way
$8.50/$2.70 (1 Unit)
Race 9: Murray Cox Handicap - 4:43pm (AEST)
(10) Mgarten is third up here and should be ready to fire now after a 4th and 3rd. He ran on well at Randwick for 3rd last start and this looks a similar race on class. He is very consistent and has ran a 2nd and 3rd already over this distance. From barrier 3 he may settle a little closer in this.
(13) Fortune was unlucky last start at Caulfield when 3rd and the gelding has to be an each-way chance in this. He drops 4kg here and Daniel Moor is capable of giving him a good steer from barrier 9.
(5) La Zebra is better on Soft ground but is capable on the Good too despite never winning on Dry surfaces in 13 starts. Rises in distance here and may get a cushy run from barrier 1.
(12) Ambassadorial I have picked three times in a row but he hasn’t won. In saying that his three runs after a spell have been solid and he has to be considered.
(10) Mgarten WIN
$8.50 (1 Unit)
