NBA Betting Tips: Saturday, October 25th 2025
Boston Celtics at New York Knicks (10:30am AEDT)
A powerhouse match-up between the Boston Celtics and the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Unfortunately, we don’t see Jayson Tatum for the season with a torn Achilles. For the Knicks, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, and Josh Hart are all listed as game time decisions.
Towns is most crucial here, and his absence would have an immediate impact on the Knicks’ chances. Anunoby is likely to play though, and that’s great news because he was excellent in the season opener that saw New York win 119-111 over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Anunoby had 24 points, 14 rebounds and three steals, while point guard Jalen Brunson scored 23, despite a 5-18 effort from the field.
Mike Brown has taken over coaching of the Knicks which means the role and bench players will see much more action than former coach Tom Thibodeau who often played eight-man rotations with starters playing huge minutes. Brown showed that isn’t the case in the opening game with a player like Trey Jemison seeing court time – something Thibs almost certainly would not have done.
The Celtics enter the game off a 116-117 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. In that game, rookie VJ Edgecombe scored 34 points, the most by a rookie on debut since Wilt Chamberlain. For the Celtics, Jaylen Brown and Derrick White both scored 25 points – they will be the bulk scorers in Tatum’s absence.
On paper, the Tatum-less Celtics are going to struggle at MSG against the Knicks, provided Towns and Anunoby play. Brunson should be more efficient, and Mikal Bridges is going to find his own shot at times too. Happy to be with the Knicks at the -5.5 line.

Minnesota Timberwolves at Los Angeles Lakers (1:00pm AEDT)
The Los Angeles Lakers were no match for the Golden State Warriors on opening night, losing 119-109, despite 43 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists from Luka Doncic. There was minimal support for the Lakers superstar point guard, except for Austin Reaves who finished with 26 points and nine assists.
It was a winning start by the Timberwolves as they narrowly beat the Portland Trailblazers 118-114, courtesy of their superstar Anthony Edwards having 41 points. Ant led the league last season with 320 three-pointers made and started with 5-10 in their opening game.
Lakers center Deandre Ayton, acquired during the offseason, needs to show more offensively. There are question marks over his toughness and effort, and these are going to be magnified under the bright lights of L.A. Former four-time defensive player of the year, Rudy Gobert, is not going to make it easy for Ayton inside the paint, and a lot about this match up could sway the outcome of this game.
It's going to be exciting to see Doncic and Edwards compete – both respective superstars are going to dominate offensively. The supporting cast certainly looks like where this game will be won or lost. With LeBron James out once again, Reaves and Ayton become the clear second and third options, while Rui Hachimura needs to knock down his threes when he finds some clear space to shoot.
The Lakers were 31-10 at home last season, and despite starting with a loss, and no LeBron, happy to be with them at the +3.5-point handicap.
Prop Bet: A. Edwards Over 26.5 Points $1.83 (1.5 Units) bet365
Lakers +3.5

Phoenix Suns at Los Angeles Clippers (1:30pm AEDT)
It was the worst possible start for the Los Angeles Clippers as they travelled to Salt Lake City and were obliterated by one of the worst teams in the league, the Utah Jazz. Falling 129-108, there are not too many positives for the Clippers – no player scored 20 points. They shot 44% from the field compared to the Jazz’s 55%.
The positive now is that it is simply one game, and there will be plenty of instances this season where teams lose by double digits before winning by double digits in the very next game, and that is what I am banking on.
When you have James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, Ivica Zubac, Bradley Beal and Chris Paul on the roster – albeit most of them are aging veterans whose best is behind them – then you expect the team to be more competitive. Playing at home here against the Suns should spark the vets. Expect this to be a very different team.
The Phoenix Suns enter the game after a 120-116 victory over the Sacramento Kings at home. Devin Booker was brilliant with 31 points and with no Kevin Durant or Beal on the team, Booker once again must carry the offensive load.
It’s only game two, but the Clippers simply cannot no-show a second straight game, especially in front of the Intuit Dome crowd. Can see them bouncing back in a big way in this game.
